Go to channel 53 for the replay of what they said this time about the Grand Prix of OKC and the city getting together to talk about the issue Tuesday morning.
I think I have it all figured out and will editorialize it later. But it seems we lost SFS so let us align ourselves with the Mayor and any revenue producing racing event and be his PR department.
Sorry guys and gals, there is a reason as to why Houston no longer holds a Grand Prix and why other big cities don't have a Grand Prix through their streets. Long Beach is successful (or is it) because it is tradition and has established itself. Nothing has been established here and this day and age would take years to do so.
Should spend time and effort and money that your doing for the Grand Prix and either get the fairgrounds speedway up to code or produce 8 million and get us first class race track. That goes for all parties involved.

Good point David, the City of Phoenix, Az. spent Millions of tax payer dollars building garages to house the Indy Car Grand Prix in downtown Phoenix, not to mention the cost of promoting the event.
Guess what it was a bust, they held I think two Indy Car Grand Prix races before going bankrupt and the City of Phoenix ended up spending several more millions of dollars to tear down the newly built garages and paddock area for an Annual event that was a flop.
Oklahoma City is nowhere near being in the same class as Phoenix in sporting ventures on a National level.
I think we should put an end to our local Politicans travel budget, all it seems to do is allow them to travel to "The Big Cities" and come home with bright ideas.
Oklahoma has a proud tradition of being good down to earth hardworking, God fearing people. That is a quality that most wish they had back. I am not against progress, but when does it stop. Our kids expect that their needs will be meet without earning them, our politicans feel they can push through what "they" feel is the best for our community and in the end we all lose.
This is not the America, or Oklahoma I grew up in. Let's get back to reality.

In defense of Indy Car, as Alan has stated above. The Grand Prix race held in downtown Phoenix in 89-90-91 were Formula 1 sanction. But, yes the city did lose a ton of money.

I say let mayor Mick bring on the Grand Prix.I wont be attending. What will it cost to build garage area and how many events will be held at this track, and how long will it take to be profitable?I bet it will cost more than it would to remodel the state fair speedway and making it ADA compliant.

They're spending billions of dollars to lose billions more. If they got billions to blow they could afford $800,000 maximum to renovate and update grandstands and give the rest to the OKC school district.

Unbelievable! Well, isnt this just a slap in the face! Way to rip the heart of the Oklahoma City racing community out and then rub salt in the wound! As I've said before these politicians and the OKC "elite" think this is all their personal sandbox. They don't want us playing our games in it, so Micky and his buddies just stomped on our sand castle and are are now kicking sand in our faces!
I like dirt!

My apologies to everyone as I've been corrected. It's not billions it's just millions.
