According to news from Carlisle, PA's Sentinel, Williams Grove Speedway will pay $3,600 to win a regular 25 lap feature event in 2010, with bonuses of $500 paid to drivers who win from starting positions 7 - 12th, and a cool $1,000 bonus paid to any driver who can win from starting position 13th on back.

Start from 13th on back and win a regular 25 lap feature at the Grove will pay $4,600!

Also, second place will now pay $2,000..............

THANKS to the Grove management for again making it one of the best weekly (not weakly as a certain Canadian idiot would have some believe) purses in the country, and rewarding those who perform and add EARN that cash!

Not trying to be a deek or anything, but how many times were those bonuses (for starting from 7th on back, which were available in 2009 I believe) claimed last year?

Don't know about 7th - 12th, but it was quite a few times; only 1 driver did it from 13th on back, with Doug Esh coming from 19th one night to get the extra grand.

$3600, that is impressive. Anyone know what Knoxville and Husets pay for the 410 class. Thought Husets was $2,000 last year.

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

Huset's was $2500 to win and $300 to start. Knoxville was $3,000 to win and $600 to start. They have their payout on the website, and Huset's does not...

It speaks well of Williams Grove that their financial situation is healthy enough to support a purse like this. Kudos to the management team!

I believe it was 7 times...I know Esh won over $8000 for wining back to back weeks from back in the pack.

Before "we" get down on our knees and shout hallelujahs! How much to get in (both front and back gate) for a regular show? If increased, does the increase go fairly to the drivers and owners? How about support divisions costs to get in? Do "they" get a brake or just pony-up the extra dough? WGS earned from me the nickname "The Greed" for a reason! Support Port Royal Speedway on March 12th. Superior 410 opener last year (sprints only). E-Mods.

I think $600 to start at a Knoxville regular show is a healthy amount. I've been to Husets many times, and the big crowd they get there every Sunday nite supports their payout. Hope the 360s at Husets get their fair share too. Hope they can keep the car counts around 20 in each class.

Knoxville paid $600 to start if there were 20 or less cars in the A main, which was rare. More often than not, Cappy started more cars than that in the A, hence only $300 to start last year.

Money goes to the owners? Not in Pittman's case pittmanfan.

Most drivers get 35 to 40%, then you gotta pay the crew chief, another 35 to 40%.

How does the money go to the owner?????????

And why all the hate firstturn?

If you don't like the Grove, it is simple, do not go and do not support their program; The last time I checked, Williams Grove's pit passes and admission prices for fans for regular shows that this purse increase applies to are very reasonable compared to other tracks running similar programs, and a down right bargain compared to some.

Purse increases are nothing but a very good positive in my book,

and I applaud the Grove management for stepping up and rewarding those

who entertain us week in and week out for not a whole lot anyhow, other than alot of glory and pride.

Yes, the owners get the purse. If the owner chooses to give the money to the driver, that's their decision. I am not insinuating that the owner makes any more money. Point blank, the owner's name is on the tax forms. As far as I know, the increase is coming from the Goodyear money, not an increase in admission.

And the driver, plus any other paid crew, gets a federal form 1099 for tax purposes from the car owner for his percentage, trust me on this one...........

If a driver was getting 40% of the $3000 to win that the purse used to pay, he made $1200 if he won; in 2010 he gets the same 40% of the now $3600 to win, he will now gross $1440. Quite simple actually.

If you think the drivers are racing for the fun of it, you may want to talk to a few of them and also talk to some owners while you are at it. I am quite certain the owners will let you know that they are paying their drivers and paying them very well.

I knew Goodyear had to make its way into this thread. Who cares if it is the Grove or Goodyear or Hillary Clinton supplying the $$... that is a tremendous incentive for a racer to stay local and run the Grove.

KUDOS to the Grove for an outstanding purse. That is truly amazing for weekly racing. With that much $$$ to win... it would really be tough to be a traveler with the All Stars or other groups if living in PA and traveling much less. Hodnett, Pittman, etc. (former travelers) living in PA look even smarter right now.

Hopefully Knoxville will follow suit. (not that it matters to me personally one way or another)

ASCS regionals (and national events to a lesser extent) are the next that need a raise.
