Is it just me, or do others think some of the hoods and bodies are starting to get pretty ugly with the Sprint Cars? I guess I am old school, I jusy like the STANDARD hoods that come from the manufacturers. I liked the fact that I could usually tell what kind of chassis each car was just based on the hood. Now I just can't tell anymore.

I like the retro alum. 3 piece hood Flash built that's being run on JD & Jannie Porter's Sprint in 2010.

I am with you on this one. I know teams have fooled around with hoods for years going back to the Karl Kinser days. That being said, Schatz seems to be pretty fast with a standard J&J style hood. But I know someone else will say that Saldana had a pretty good year with his funky hood. I guess there are people who like the innovation, I am just not one of them.

Aside from the ugly KKR hoods, I am not really bothered by most of the new hood designs out there. My pet peeve is the small tails- To me those ruin the look of the whole car. Compared to a mid-80's winged car, the modern cars with the midget tanks make the cars look like a dog that just got a boot to the butt.

hell guy's it isn't just the hoods that are ugly. look at thesorry side panels that extend all theay back to the real axel and up to the roll cage. i like the real sprinter / midget look from the 70's/80's. also the wedge hood from back in the 70'/80's worked as good and allowed plenty of air inside, i have pictures i took of a nance car with evidence of air releasing out the back end /sides od the air box. also with a wedge hood you can run injector stacks out thesides of the hood if you choose to.. my guess, the new ugly hoods are not any better for down force.....

I don't mind the look of the standard downtube cars today and their "factory" body panels and small tanks. But I'm still kinda new too. I think the non-wing cars are starting to look gawdy with their 5-bar innovation and the front of their cars has no more character(curves)
But I think the absolute all around best looking sprint car is Doug Wolfgangs 4X Vise Grip car. Even the headers were cool looking. CarWashMike has a picture of it somewhere.

I think everybody needs to start here if they want to make sprinters easy on the eyes again.
For G**'s sakes people, racing was considered entertainment at one time. That's what most of those seats on the outside of the fences were for , from what I heard.

This really a nice setup here. It's got louvers on the side panels, and even a full belly pan! This group puts out a nice, clean simple race car. Even going to have hand lettering too from what I hear. With Joe Wood Jr. behind the wheel, the look says 'all business'.

I think all the variations are good for the sport. I like to see all the different hoods and I love the hood with the scoop in it.

I'd rather be in Knoxville.

OMG you could have seen the driver in that car..I dont mind the hoods but these side panels they have on the left side of the roll cage is ridicules---then on the right side of the cage I dont know why they dont just cover the whole cage with a 4x4 sheet of plywood and maybe cut out a half moon for the driver to peek out of.

I could get back into watching cars like this again. It would take me back to what it was like when I was 10 years old.

Yes, we've given up a lot in looks for safety I guess. At this rate, pretty soon you won't be able to see the driver at all.
Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

Modern dzus on glass bodies go along with the rest of the way the modern cars are. Plastic tail tanks came with bladder rules which changed the rear bodywork, alot of the rest seemed to follow. Modern bodies like most everything else are another disposable component. Alot of the old bodies were hand hammered out of aluminum, and were on the cars for many years. Not saying right wrong or otherwise. I do dislike how small the newer tailtanks have become, the cars look "chopped off"
I liked the looks of the older cars also, especially late 60's. I really dislike the modern trend of slapping decals on bare black plastic bodies wrapped around unpainted chassis and putting cars on the track. Take some time and give the cars some appeal.
Why I like the Hoffman USAC cars so much- Immaculate prep, nice bodywork and paint. Something to look at. Keep it up guys!
