First off, Lawton is my home track. The very best times I ever had that dealt with racing came from that place. I am now able to admit that the main reason I chose Cameron Univ. , was it was only a mile or two up the road from the track. Just wish I had finished my degree.
I am nobody in the world of racing and am fine with that.
Here's the deal-
there has been dissension in the ranks on both sides for years. Turns out, that may be a good thing. The city has wanted to close the speedway for years right? It's a known in OkC that they have.
They kept saying quietly they were going to close it by 2012 right? Well they may have jumped too soon. It's looking like the city officials showed they ass!
Here's where it gets tricky-Maps3 vote on Tuesday, ORA meeting on Wednesday, Notice given on Thursday, Announcement made on Friday.
Two days after the maps3 vote, the city lowers the boom on Lanny Edwards---EXPECTING THE RACERS TO PLACE ALL OF THE BLAME ON LANNY--JUST AS THEY HAD BEEN BEFORE. For a short time, many did. BUT, in the meantime Lanny was upset that the city had tried to flush him down the toilet without one concern for his reputation, and WHILE HE HAD A CONTRACT. That's two (2) slaps to the face. It got personal in a hurry. Lanny's closest people did not like it either.
Everybody has been figuring this out lately, and it may explain why things have seemed off kilter in the last few years. It just may be that Lanny pushed harder, and in unfamiliar ways, hoping to turn things around, BEFORE it got this messy. Few like his practices, but he is still in OkC , EVEN IF IT COSTS HIM A LOT OF MONEY.
The city attacked Lanny and the Racers at the same time, and now everybody is in the same boat.
He has a chance to show once again why he is a Hall of Fame Promoter.
Win or lose, Lanny Edwards now steps up to the plate just like we had always wished he would.
And yes, even I will have to sit down to eat my own share of Humble Pie. I have nothing on the table anymore. My OkC NSRA vintage idea is kaput,(I'll make the announcement soon) and the guys in Texas will be hooking up with a group down south. So, that leaves me a free agent to run my old super when and where I want with the vintage guys, work permitting. This allows me to call it like I see it.

PS- This is about the political world vs the short track racer, and it has far reaching implications. Quite a few rivals of Lannys have been helping as best as they could.
