http://disabilitylaw.blogspot.com/2005/02/wheelchair-users-file-26-title-iii.html
"I finally got tired of people discriminating against me and others like me, so I finally did something about it," Lawson said.
That something was filing 26 federal lawsuits in Oklahoma City against businesses and other organizations Lawson claims refuse to comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires that facilities are accessible to people with disabilities.
Lawson's latest target is Oklahoma City, where he has sued officials for not meeting the needs of people with disabilities at state Fair Park.

I remember this guy he was all over the news back when his crusade began. I am very sensitive to people with special needs, because I carry a wheel chair in the back for my Dad and my wife works with children with special needs.
But IMO some people go a little to far sometimes. SFS is the only track I can safely take my Dad to go see a race. Yes it is good exercise for me (and I dang sure need it lol) but still the same it works for us. When he needs to go to the bathroom IN HIS WHEEL CHAIR the only problem is waiting his turn for the Handicapped stall, and it's not a very long wait. Yes a power chair would have trouble getting in the door in the upstairs bathroom but hell that would be a quick fix and everybody knows that. Most of the time the handicapped seating area is filled up on the second level so it must not be that much trouble for other people either. But before a few get on here and bash me again, I know what the ADA laws are but that don't mean I have to agree with them all.
We even go to the pits IN HIS WHEEL CHAIR and I have no problems pushing his chair anywhere at SFS we need to go.
Just think of the People with special needs that will not be able to go anywhere else and watch a race or have to sit in a lower or grass area and eat dirt all nite.
So everybody else has to pay for his BS trying to make his point and make money off the system. And probably never has been to SFS or never planned to go anyway.
Shame on you.......

Am I reading something into the City's resolution: http://www.okc.gov/council/council_library/packet/060718/PPA%207%20A&B.pdf ?
Their resolution total of $462,176.40 was for the complete rennovation of all fairgrounds facilities, not just the grandstands, so that they would be compliant with the ADA and Rehabilitation Act. This was the agreed "up to estimate" of all parties and their so-called experts.
My question is how much of this has already been accomplished to the other buildings and facilities during the past three years of this five year timeframe? If the other buildings and facilities have already been rennovated, it seems that it would be "peanuts" to bring the grandstands up to compliance in comparison to the total cost of all other facilities.
Once again, is this ADA issue just another smoke screen effort to remove the speedway?

Evidently it is,It looks like the city along with its special interest groups thought they could take it all away then do whatever they wanted.Problem with them is they under estimated the hicks who race there. Those damn racers and fans can fight.Personally I have no dog in this fight,I attend two races per year. The reason I am helping these rednecks is that most of my business is with i-44,ft cobb, port city.If the city can close that track it will leave the door wide open for this to happen at any track.Besides that it is NOT right, which now leaves me with this problem with our local elected officials. We will win this battle if we all stick together maybe get the track another two years.Everyone will have to fight and keep on till they say UNCLE!

Yes, I did read this, and I also read between the lines as to how our City Leaders are trying to pull the wool over our eyes. We as a group do not need to sit idle and let some that think they know what is best for our Communtity take control.
We are the Tax Payers, and we have the right to say where our Tax Dollars go. Mr. Cornett and company seem to have their best interest in the Horse Community.
I for one am appalled at that our City Leaders would choose a certain group over another. Is this not the same as racism.

Again I must add, the $462,176.40 is the total amount necessary to bring ALL fairgrounds facilities and when I say ALL, that includes the Grandstand.
With MAPS passing, there was supposed to be $77 million allocated to the fairgrounds for improvements. According to my figuring, to be ADA compliant for the complete fairgrounds is .6% of the MAPS fairgrounds budget.
