Canyon Speedway Park Press Release Peoria, AZ December 19, 2009 --- Nodak Speedway modified track champion, Dacotah Speedway modified track champion, Southwest Speedway modified track champion #7 Marlyn Seidler of Underwood, North Dakota makes plans to run 2010 Winter Challenge Series in sunny Peoria, Arizona. In 2009 Seidler also chalked up a North Dakota IMCA state championship, placed fourth in the modified ButlerBuilt north central regional point standings and twelfth in the national point standings.

At last years Winter Challenge Series, Seidler battled it out with a forty-car field and finished nineteenth in the feature. Canyon fans saw a home state driver and a traveler from halfway across the country win the IMCA Modified opening weekend double header at Canyon Speedway Park's 2009 Modified Winter Challenge Series. Local racer Ricky Thornton Jr. topped Saturday's round one show pocketing a grand for his work in the first IMCA event held at Canyon since the 2004 season. The following day, Seidler put on a show with an impressive second place feature finish but it was the DandyLand team traveling from Iowa and driver Rich Lewerke that picked up a $1,000 winning payout on the Sunday’s round two show.

Seidler again finished up front with a fifth place pay out as it was team DandyLand and Lewerke that stayed on the throttle with a round three victory. Again in round four DandyLand and Lewerke would show their dominance by finishing in front of Canyon track champion’s second 14j-Jay Foster second place run and third place 5m-Anthony Madrid. The North Dakota resident got everything worked out and Seidler led the way in round five. Round five also saw 2009 rookie phenom 4tw-Tim Ward from Mesa, Arizona start off his career in front of a stellar field with a remarkable second place finish.

Things really heated up in round six with a 52 car field in that 28 teams traveled from 9 states including CA, NE, ND, IO, WI, CO, NM, TX & MN. Round six doubled as a WWMT-SS/Winter Challenge finale weekend. Local city of Peoria resident 12n-Guy Norton won in arguably the best feature modified race in Canyon History with a photo finish. Four wide at the finish line WWMT champion ww1-Ricky Alvarado placed second, 09-Jay Foster third, 98-Kevin Brown fourth and 7-Marlyn Seilder rounded out the top five. Round seven and the final race of the series went to Alvarado. Again, Seidler proved to be a front-runner with a fourth place finish.

Rich Lewerke won the 2009 Winter Challenge Series championship as he had it out with 81 different competitors signing in on the drivers list in the modified division alone for the series. For more info go to www.canyonspeedwaypark.com and check out the 2010 Winter Challenge Series.
