The ORA board members met w/ Tim O'Toole, Gary Marrs, Ron Norick, & a few others this morning. Tim told Lanny in June that it wasn't looking good. It didn't just all of a sudden happen. But unfortunately it is a done deal. There will be no more racing @ SFS.

Erich, I left a message on your "Save" sight on FB!

Seems I heard an interesting thing about the grandstands I never knew, there are elevators in the grandstands! So is there that much renovation that really needs to be done to be ok with the ADA?

If that is the case than it's time to move on. Fighting City Hall is diffanately an uphill battle. Reading the paper makes it even more confirming with statements by the Mayor that it is an end to an era. With OKC buldging to it's limits with residentual neighborhoods there wont be a race track in OKC ever again. Most new facilities are built in communities that need the revenue and have low population. Towns around here such as Cashion, Blanchard and Jones are a few that come to mind.

Nevertheless it's time to move forward with optimisum that each one of us will find a place to get our Friday nite fix all though it will probably be on Sat. Just cause our tracks future seems terminal dosent mean the Race Teams or the Fans are. I see Teams and Fans splitting up and going seperate direction with the fans of SFS cheering for the ones they cheered for in the past.

Probably the biggest winner of the closure is the OCRS and the Oklahoma NCRA Mod and Limited Mod Series. Our local Teams will be able to compete very strong in those series. I've heard of teams that wanted to do more traveling in the past but couldnt for the possible damage to the equip. and with this comming on with just weeks before the season the series should do well. Meeker will difanately see an increase in car count and will be like a magnet for lots of Fans in the City.

The losers in this deal is first and formost the Fans. It was very conveiant to go to the races on Fri after work and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Injected cars have also suffered a sever blow, they are faced with the hardest choices of all. I dont know how many fingers will be pointed at Lanny but I'm sure there will be some that probably will never race at his facility again. City Council and the Mayor will diffinately take a hit in the next election as well and I hope they do. They can dump millions into there "Special Projects" but have to come around to the back door to shut us down.

IF this is the final blow {and I hope it not} everybody needs to have faith that we will come out of this deal and racing will still be a tradition in our lives. "They can burn down your house but you wont stay homeless long" with the type of Family we all belong to. The racing community is stronger than people give us credit for and is offen under estamated.

I for one will continue to take my Boys racin and teach them value through the sport {you might even see Old J D in a car from time to time}. It has been one of the best teaching tools I have found to teach them life lessons with recreational sports. We will most likely end up at Brill Motor Speedway but have enjoyed our times when we've been there in the past but will miss SFS more than anyone will ever know!

Told you guys several months ago this was going to happen but got called a liar and was told there was a contract until 2012 and it couldn't be touched. Alrighty then. That is why I really haven't chymed into any of the conversations because your dealing with crooks and government and more than likely are not going to win. And don't get me wrong, I hate it and didn't want to believe it when I tried to tell you guys as I love the city but fact is fact.

And as for those who said that MAPS3 had nothing to do with this you can take your head out of Ron Noricks ass and kiss mine.

Myself, Frank Dittman, Scott Waddell, and Kevin Pickard all met with officials from the city of okc, the fairboard, and the fairgrounds. There was alot learned from the meeting. I will not go into detail now, but all the details will be discussed at the ORA meeting in January.

I certainly took the position that MAPS3 had nothing to do with the speedway and I do not ever remember calling you or anyone a liar. I believe that it was proven today that MAPS3 affects the fairgrounds, but not the racetrack. As I said before, wether MAPS3 passed or failed it not affected the racetrack, its future was sealed regardless of the outcome of MAPS3.

Maps3 did have a bearing cause they now have 200 thousnand dollars per year and don't need our money from the speedway anymore because they just won the lottery. MAPS3 shut us down and that is my opinion.

David it is good that you are in better health now.I never thought maps3 would get passed.I cant believe people voted to extend a tax!For anyone that voted for it,I am sure you did what you thought was right and thats ok.Since you dont mind giving away money to complete morons,I'll be more than happy to take other monies you would like to give away.I could get used to a few million myself.Far less than the civic leaders wanted.I would utilize it more than them faggots with the fair board and city leaders.Hell maybe ole Cornett would be interested in kissing Daves ass. Around 1997 was the first I started hearing rumors about tearing down the speedway. The Sunday edition of The Daily Oklahoman printed an in depth article about it,They said then they were going to build a "Grand entrance to the fairgrounds".I am sorry to see that our City will climb into bed with special interest groups of any kind. I never thought the day would come, but now I realize that this CAN happen to ANY racetrack

If this June meeting indeed happened, why are we now just hearin about it?

Was there any other motives envolved in delaying this information?

If you think that maps3 was a good idea than you are joking yourself, For a fact since 2000 they have cut 2% of the firefighters jobs that is around 45 fireman. This coming after the fact that the first 2 maps was supposed to help firefighters and cops and build new stations for both neither has got one.

Fact, they have already said that firefighters will cut another 2% in Jan, hmm thats around another 45 firefighters, but yet maps 3 is supposed to bring new jobs to the firefighters and Police but sum how they have to cut more jobs. They might even have to go to a 3 man rig, which is the bare minimum to run a rig, Well i fell safer now that maps 3 has passed cause we all know that politicans never lie.

Fact, the state highway patrol is going to cut their budget by 10% in jan, Thats less highway patrol on the highways stopping drug runners and kidnappers and others. Yet they are so concerned about OUR race track.

If you truely believe that maps3 had nothing to do with our race track. Than what in the hell does improvements to the Fair grounds mean. Also if you do believe that then i have some ocean front property in arizona for sale real cheap.

Let me know about the property.

For the record, I voted against MAPS3. After todays meeting we found out that the tracks demise was sealed no later than September, but could have been as early as July. That is months before the MAPS3 vote. There is documentation to prove this fact. I don't know how much clearer that can be. The timing makes it look like MAPS3 was the cause, but it wasn't and the facts bear that out.

Stanley who? If your talking about Stanley Reed then guess you better guess again as I have only talked with him once since racing season ended and that was two weeks ago when he worked on my sons transmission. We didn't talk about racing then as it wasn't even brought up.

I found out this was the last year for SFS during early last winter and when it was brought up again during this summer I tried to let people know but - as usual - I didn't know what I was talking about.

Shockingly, some people I know who know don't have anything to do with SFS.

I agree with you 100%. The track would be gone even if maps3 did not pass.
