Here is a shot I took of Ron Shuman in the Ofixco 21 at the 1982 Spring Nationals at the Devils Bowl. To say the least the track was more than a little heavy during hot laps and Shuman was covered with Texas clay.
Stop by http://www.ovaltrackphotos.com and check out my new alphabetical listings of all the drivers and cars I photographed from 1979 to 1984. Its amazing to see how many cars some of the drivers were in over those years.

The width of that left rear and the sideboards on that top wing look like a good start to un-hooking the cars of today.

Who's Ron Shuman? Oh I dont know just the first driver to win racing "triple crown" the Knoxville Nationals, Western World at Manzanita; and Pacific Coast Nationals at Ascot, All without a wing. He won USAC's Hulman Classic for sprint cars, Hut Hundred for midgets and Hoosier Hundred for silver crown cars; four Western Worlds championships at Manzanita; three Pacific Coast Nationals at Ascot, another at Hanford; eight Turkey Night midget classics.
Great Pix keep em coming!

Without reading the caption, I said to myself, "Shuman came to Petaluma in the early 80's?"
