Right now (9PM) it's 71 and clear in beautiful Batesville, Arkansas where round one of the MAMC is taking place as I type. Doggone I need to retire! Have to work tonight but I'll see y'all up there Saturday. It looks great the rest of the weekend too. Tomorrow (Friday) just has a 30% chance of r--- in the morning and that's it. No day racing this year! Cool Saturday: High 83, Low of 59 in Batesville, Arkansas on March 24th. Man you got to love that! In case you forgot, Saturday's A main pays $8000 to win & $1000 to start and you have two more chances to make the show after tonight. I think that's 16 spots available. Is it a new draw on Friday or are they inverting Thursday's draw this year?

But Batesville isn't the only place blessed with good weather this weekend. Anybody remember the cold temps in Madisonville, Kentucky's Bluegrass Bash last year? This is the $6000 to win, $500 to start one day UMP race promoted by Billy Egeler at Western Kentucky Speedway. Well, they do have to battle off a 60% chance of rain on Friday which is practice only with just a 30% chance of rain on race day -- Saturday. In case they need it, Sunday is just a 10% chance with highs of 80 and 83 for Sat & Sun. Won't that feel good after last year? I think Mike Harrison's winning cow car was delivering frozen milk last year!

Not wishing Billy any bad luck at all. I hope this rain gets out of the area and he races as scheduled on Saturday. He has a good shot at it but IF they end up on Sunday....

Look for some of the cars that make Batesville's A to maybe load up and head east and invest some of their winnings in a set of UMP tires. For $500 to start & a shot at $6000 to win on a one-day show, I bet more than one will try it. Mapquest says it's 6 hours and 330 miles between the two.

Our friend Todd Staley with USMTS has a mixed bag forecast for his 2 Southern REGION (not to be confused with the USMTS Southern SERIES) and one Western Region race this weekend. At Humboldt Speedway in southeast Kansas on Friday night where it pays $2000 to win, there is a 60% chance of rain but the next night at I-70 Speedway it drops off to no chance for that $2000 to win and the high temp forecast in Odessa, Missouri on March 24th is 75 with a low of 59. Them yankees will be sweatin' huh -- they were in shorts & T-shirts at West Siloam last weekend while the Louisiana contigent had their jackets on!

On Sunday in Mayetta, it goes back to a 60% chance of r--- but still a high of 75 and low of 58 so if the rain waits until late at night on Sunday, they could still have another comfortable night for that $2000 to win. This is the Western Region race.

Next weekend, the USMTS Southern Series will have it's second weekend of racing in 2007 at Enid Speedway Park in north central Oklahoma. $2000 to win on Friday & $3000 to win on Saturday. Let's hope the weather is as good as it is in OKC this weekend for the ASCoT Sprint Cars at State Fair Speedway. 30% chance of r--- Friday, 10% Saturday, high 80 both days, lows 62!!! Jason Johnson swept that show last year I think.

Now right here at home, we may have it the best of all! They are practicing right now at Gene Boyter's Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana. The Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals pays $2000 to win in the Modifieds with $250 to start. The high temps for Fri-Sat are 81-82 and the lows are 59-60 with no chance of rain!
