Turner Memorial
West Coast Sprinters – IMCA Mods & Stocks
This Saturday Night

August 22, 2009

This Saturday night, Kings Speedway will remember and honor the passing of Jim Turner. It was just two years ago this September, that long time Kings sprint car driver Jim Turner in his # 27 machine was involved in a fatal turn three crash. Family and friends will be on hand to dedicate this yearly event to the memory of husband, father, son, and friend, Jim Turner. Action Equipment Rentals is this week’s sponsor for the West Sprinters.

As the 2009 season winds down, several questions beg to be answered. One, can either of the VanderWeerd boys develop enough momentum to vault into the lead. Richard V. (190) is mere 42 points behind the leader Jared Little at 232 points. Two, can Little hang on to his slim lead? Little has been the picture of consistency in 2009, proving that you don’t necessarily need a win to be a winner. Three, is Justyne Hamblin ready to launch into 1st from a close second? Hamblin apparently tore a page from Little’s book on consistency, while winning only one race she is only four points behind out of first place. Rusty Carlile of Bakersfield is 19 points out of the lead, in third place, with 213 points.

With only four point’s races remaining in the 2009 season, the West Coast Sprinters Championship is up for grabs.

Paul Everett’s R/V and Round Table Pizza of Hanford bring this weeks IMCA Modifieds to Hanford.
The IMCA Modified division is somewhat like the WCS Sprint division. The top three positions could be covered with a blanket. David Addamo of Santa Maria has a slim lead over Laton’s Jimmy Reeves. Hanford’s Glen Olsen is just 37 points out of first place. Paul Everett’s R/V is the sponsor for the IMCA Stock Division

Now for the Wild Bunch. The IMCA Stock division, with their wild and wooly races have four drivers separated by just 22 points. Hanford’s Troy Patee leads Lemoore’s Loren DeArmand by a whopping 2 points. Riverdale’s Jon Dias is only 13 points out of first. Ron Sylvester of Lemoore is in fourth, down just 22 points. Ron Hurt of Hanford, the lone Ford pilot, is 111 points out, but with some consistent finishes he could give the rest of the field a real thrill.

Confirmation was received confirming that two age groups of Mini Dwarf’s, 6 to 9 and 9 to 12, will return to Kings Speedway. They will make the haul from Ventura and Southern California and hope for a re-run of the great racing they enjoyed back in May when upwards of 200 Dwarf cars were on hand for the Dwarf Car Nationals. .

This Saturday is back to school night. Bring the kids out for some fun and freebee’s and let’s all remembers and honor the memory of Jim Turner.
