410s (18 Cars)
Welcome Mat Sam Hafertepe, Jr. hustles down from North Dakota following the Outlaw double-header for a Sunday drive. Lynton Jeffrey along with Wertz's favorite driver Matt Wasmund also are back.
MIA Scott Winters, Robby Wolfgang, T-Mac, Dusty Ballenger, Ryan Bickett
VIP Usual suspects in the usual location, minus a few people due to the season dwindling down.
Time Trials (1 lap each) Sam Hafertepe Jr. (10 car out) drops the quick time for the evening on a rough track at an elapsed time of 10.820 at the average speed of 124.629 MPH around the 1/3 high banked oval. Gregg Bakker also broke into the teens with a lap at 10.983 to be 2nd quick. The rest of the field hitting the heat race invert: Clint Garner, Marlon Jones, Jake Peters, Mark Dobmeier, John Lambertz, Jeffrey, Wasmund, Chad Meyer, Troy Meyer, and Joe Riedel.
Time Trials Grade: B-; the track was rather rough already for quick time qualifications

Heat 1 Finish: 1 16 15H 40 6/ 4w 101 17v 12L (DNF)
Heat 1 Notes: Wasmund took the initial lead coming off of turn two but T. Meyer snatched that back coming off of four. Hafertepe quickly was up to 4th and looking for more by following Peters to the front as the 4w faded in a hurry. He continued to fade to 5th after Garner woke him up with a nice pass on the bottom of turn two. Rosenboom was able to grab the last invert spot after that as Wasmund continued to have his car in reverse, much to the chagrin of a certain Florida resident who loved it via text. T. Meyer picked up his first heat win of the year as he held of Peters late.

Heat 2 Finish: 4 13 15 12 11x/ 9M 25 13JM 16v (DNF)
Heat 2 Notes: C. Meyer grabbed the early lead and checked out on the field until Dobmeier started to run him down throughout the 10 lapper. Dobmeier would run out of time as C. Meyer picked up his 3rd heat win of the year. Great action for 3rd as you could throw a blanket over Riedel, Jeffrey, and Bakker for the last half of the race. The rough track wouldn't allow much for passing though.
Heat Grades: B; it could have been better had the track not been so rough, but it was pretty good action in the heats nonetheless.
B Feature (Top Tag the A, Laps)
B Feature Grade/Notes: No B Feature as all 18 cars would start the A.
Baete Forseth Back Row Challenge The two quick timers for the night (Hafertepe and Bakker) quickly turned down the challenge leaving up to Garner to accept it. He had Dobmeier literally behind him hoping he would turn it down so he could grab another shot at it, but Garner accepted it and would start 18th on the field in the A. The kitty was at $5,000 again for a bonus if he won, and he also qualified himself for the big bonus at the end of the year along with: McCarl, Dobmeier, Wolfgang, Winters, and Kerry Madsen.
A Feature (25 Laps) Starting Order: T. Meyer drew a 10 pill following the heats

A Feature Notes: This really turned into a barn-burner and probably the most exciting race of the year for the attendees in the stands. On the initial start, Garner was already past two rows of cars when the green was waved and he was warned not to do it again. Rosenboom jumped out to the lead on the official start. A lap later, Peters did an amazingly tight 360 over in turn two as everyone avoided him and he was able to get back in line while losing some positions as we stayed green. Dobmeier was quickly up into 2nd three laps into the race and running down Rosenboom in a hurry. Just as he was getting to him the caution flew for Peterson who stopped off of turn four on lap six and that was replaced by the red for Holt who rode the turn two wall before settling on all four tires.
The restart had Rosenboom ahead of Dobmeier, Bakker (from 8th), C. Meyer, and Hafertepe as Garner was already up to 8th from his 18th starting spot in just five laps. Dobmeier quickly became the leader on the restart using the bottom of turn two to snatch the lead. Bakker then moved up into the 2nd position on lap eight as C. Meyer followed a lap later into 3rd. Peterson brought out his second caution for the night in his 410 debut on lap 10 over in turn two. Dobmeier was ahead of Bakker, C. Meyer, Rosenboom, Hafertepe, and now Garner on the next restart.
We continued to stay green as Bakker was able to hang with Dobmeier into traffic, but all eyes were still on Garner who had moved up into 4th with ten laps to go as he got by Hafertepe's Plumbfast Racing #15H. Peters did the same thing a lap later but it would be negated due to Bakker going up in a HUGE ball of flames while in 2nd with nine to go. He was able to get to the infield as the fire dwindled when he stopped as the rest was extinguished by the safety crew. He was not injured.
The last restart had Dobmeier ahead of C. Meyer now in 2nd, Garner, and Hafertepe who was back ahead of Peters for 4th. Dobmeier took off on the restart as Garner wasted little time with a perfect slidejob on C. Meyer in turn three to take over the 2nd position. Garner was able to slowly track down Dobmeier's Senske & Son/Delta Oil #13 as he entered traffic and an amazing finish over the last few laps. Dobmeier was slowed up a bit in traffic and Garner had a chance to take the lead and loot on the last lap coming down the backstretch. He tried to repeat his slider he put on C. Meyer but it wasn't enough as Dobmeier held on to win by a couple of car lengths over Garner who finished just short of a huge $7,500 payday. The win for Dobmeier was his 4th of the year at the track and his 34th career 410 win at the track which now ties him for 4th all-time on the list. Lap leaders: Rosenboom 1-6, Dobmeier 7-25
A Feature Grade: A; great drama coming down the stretch with Garner looking to be the first to claim the Baete Forseth cash, but he came up just a little short. The track was blazing fast around the thin cushion on what turned out to be another smooth track for the feature.
360s (14 Cars) Randy Droescher had the early lead and held onto it until lap seven when Brock Dump finally took it from him after stalking him since the start. Rosenboom was quickly on the move from his 8th starting spot up into 3rd at the halfway point when Lambertz saw his right rear go flying of his car. Rosenboom grabbed the lead a lap after the restart and checked out on the rest of the field to grab his 3rd win of the year and his 27th career 360 win at the track, which ties him for 1st all time in the divison. Lap leaders: Droescher 1-6, Dump 7-10, Rosenboom 11-18
360 Finish:27 12 24 2D 8 4 76 42 5 17v/ 3J 19 1 (DNS) 11
FOAW: Garner will get the nod after coming from 18th to 2nd in what was his most impressive performance in the Report's memory at the track. He's been bad fast in the past, but nothing like that with the big bucks on the line from the back. Great performance as the Back Row Challenge continues to excite everyone.
Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: The 410 feature coming down to the wire with Dobmeier and Garner. It brought the crowd to their feet when Doug Clark waved the checkers but Dobmeier was able to hold on.
Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: Hot Rod was back on the mike in the infield for the Hall of Fame inductions as well as doing the infield reporting for the first night all summer. We really missed hearing some in-depth report down there, and it was great to hear him back on the mike, but…
WTF: … There was no shout-out to the Report. Woulda been great to bring up some great memories of previous shout outs from 2008, but it was Hot Rod's first night back on the job so we'll cut the rookie some slack there!
"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: Rough track in the heats was quickly fixed by the beer grader during the Hall of Fame inductions. A little longer intermission for those inductions but the races still got over at a decent time.
Mulligan Moment: Went over to Jackson on Saturday night for the Jackson Nationals and it was absolutely pathetic, especially after being down in Knoxville for a week. The track sucked in the heats, laid rubber in the feature after a few laps, and we had to sit there through a ton of body cars that were running 15-25 laps on the huge half-mile. Races didn't get over until a little after midnight and the trip back to SoDak wasn't finished until 1:45am. Its too bad because I thought Jackson had their act together, but after seeing it first hand, its obvious they are clueless.
Head Scratcher: Wasmund having an early lead in the heat and then going back to finish outside the invert in 6th on what was a rough track. Wertz loved it, and can't wait to hear what the excuse will be when the press release is sent out early in the week.
Thumbs Up: How about this new nickname for Dobs after last week's 410 portion of the show was put on hold for him to finish up at the Nationals. From this point forward he will no longer be known as "Dobs" or "Dynamite", but rather as the "Show Stopper" because he literally stops the show! Give myself and MK4K the credit on creating the nickname out back following the races.
Thumbs Down (sort of): Was hoping to see Hafertepe contend for the lead but it looked like he just missed the setup in the feature. Hopefully he's back next week as he's due to pick up his first career win at the track.
Prime Mover: Garner from last in 18th to 2nd, just coming up a little short
YouTube Clip of the Week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmhIpr8y6v8&feature=popular
Nothing like spending over a billion dollars on a stadium, only to have the visiting punter drill the huge-ass scoreboard over the field. Football season is finally almost here and I can't wait to see Favre get his ass kicked in Green Bay in week 8 much to the delight of the Cheesheads.
Trophy Queen Grade: Haven't seen the photos from victory lane yet, but it looked like some fresh faces down in victory lane!
Closing Stat of the Night: Dobmeier all but has the point title wrapped up, and the peanuts that it pays as he now has a 33 point lead over Bakker after his DNF.
Final Thought: Turned out to be a great track on a pretty nice evening in southeastern South Dakota. Racing season is dwindling down and its time to send the season out with a bang.
