FREMONT, Ohio - The 2nd Annual Jim Ford Classic featuring the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars continues to get bigger. The 2009 edition will be a two-day event at Fremont Speedway, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19, with the largest purse in the 58-year history of "The Track That Action Built." With bonuses, Saturday night's 410 sprint feature winner could take home $22,500!
"Last year's race - Dale Blaney held off a hard-charging Stevie Smith - created a lot of excitement and we wanted to build on that," said Fremont Speedway Co-Promoter Rich Farmer. "We've been kicking around the idea of a two-day show all summer, and thanks to the support of our fans, teams and sponsors, we were able to put this special weekend together. Jim Ford (former Fremont Speedway promoter) would be very proud of this event."
The weekend's racing will feature a combined 410 sprint feature purse of $54,100.
Friday's racing on Burger King Night will include the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints and the Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks. The 410 sprint feature will pay $4,000 to win and $250 to start. The B-Main will pay $100 to start. The dirt trucks will also compete for an increased purse.
Ludwig Propane will sponsor Saturday's big event paying the 410 feature winner $10,000.
"We're paying $5,000 for second with 11th place finisher taking home $1,000. It pays $500 to start. It's a tremendous one-day purse," said Co-Promoter Andy James.
The Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints will also compete on Saturday for an increased purse.
There are other incentives as well. If the same 410 sprint driver wins both Friday and Saturday features, he will take home a $6,000 bonus. The fast qualifier each day will receive $1,000. And, the driver who passes the most cars in the feature events over both nights combined gets a $500 hard charger bonus.
As has been advertised all season, there will be a rain date of Sunday, Sept. 20 for the Saturday event.
Gates on Friday, Sept. 18, will open at 5 p.m. with racing action underway at 7:30 p.m. Gates will open Saturday at 4 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m.
Ticket prices for Friday are $15 for adults with pit passes at $25. Ticket prices for Saturday are $25 with pit passes at $30.
