Little Ron
11-year-old competing at Oklahoma Sports Park
By JUSTIN LOFTON Staff Writer
ADA
— Ronnie “Little Ron” Gould III may look a little out of place outside
of his Sport Mod race car, but on the track, he’s one of the pack.
Little
Ron Gould is in the fifth grade. He’s 11 years old and began racing in
Midget Sprints when he was five years old. His father, Ron Gould, Jr.,
won his first feature race of the 2009 season on Aug 8 at the Oklahoma
Sports Park, located just northwest of Ada.
“I have only raced
four complete races,” Ron Gould III said. “I’m trying to learn this
class to someday move up to full modified.”
Despite racing with drivers that tend to be over twice his age, Gould keeps his fear to himself, if he has any.
“I just don’t think about it,” Ron Gould III said. “It does scare Mom, though.”
Little
Ron experienced his first wreck a few weeks ago at the Oklahoma Sports
Park, when he ran into the wall. This, understandably, shook mom up a
little.
“I was just praying that he was okay,” Misty Gould said. “I was okay until I saw the ambulance go to check him out.”
“She was a little panicky,” Ron Gould III said.
Ron
Gould, Jr. has been racing since 2005, although the 2009 season will be
his second full year. In addition to racing at the Oklahoma Sports
Park, he races at Meeker and the State Fair Speedway in OKC.
For
now, however, Little Ron’s racing activities take place exclusively at
the Oklahoma Sports Park. Hopefully, his mom’s fear will be laid to
rest by the time he is able to race on other tracks across the state.
