We've all reminisced about open trailers, seeing the cars as they were traveling to the track, not just the expensive sponsor's graphics. During my rained out night of boredom, I found TheVintageRacer.com and there is an awesome collection of Penn sprinters and their open trailers.

HM,
Left races in the rain at OKC this past Friday night and driving up 44 North had these same thought's as I drove past the Super Sprint A-Fea. winning car on an open trailer pulled by a 1/2 ton Dodge PU thinking how much fun that used to be, sure made it easy at the car wash!!!!!! Congret's to Butch & Darren!!!!

Open trailers gave me an obsession I still have. I rarely see an old race car anymore around here and still, when I see a trailer from a long ways off, I want to see if there's one on the back of it.

Do kids today even understand what an "open trailer" is? It doesn't mean they've still got the ramp door on the semi tractor trailer "open".
Has this hurt our sport?
Are kids (the next generation of drivers and fans by the way) more intrigued by seeing these driving anonymously down the highway, OR THIS:
I mean, I'm sure they're great to hide in from the fans when you've been an idiot on the track, but do weekend racers really need to spend all that money?
Having a trailer used to be a big enough status symbol. If your sponsor wasn't a garage or gas station with a wrecker, then the tow bar was most likely your mode of transporation. Then it was a tandem axle trailer that set apart the elite. But I think, at least for the weekenders, we've gone too far when mini-sprints show up in 53 footers.
