No Fences to Hold Back Lonnie Parker Jr.

Tucson, Arizona (April 5th, 2009) – Lonnie Parker Jr. denied Anthony Madrid of his second straight win in a battle that brought the fences down at USA Raceway. Parker took advantage of a late caution, for race leader RC Whitwell, and captured the lead from Madrid just past the mid way point in the 25 lap SWDRA Super Late Model Feature event.

Whitwell took control of the race from his 6th place starting position, showing the way around the high side of the fast 3/8 mile clay oval. Whitwell experienced mechanical problems that brought out the caution and set up a battle between Madrid and Parker. Parker, using the same line that vaulted Whitwell to the lead, passed Madrid and paced the remaining laps holding off Madrid at the line.

Heat race 1 winner, Nick Bartels, took the show position followed by SWDRA point's leader Brad Williams. Bill Bartels, Jeremy Thornton, Joey Moriarty, Mike Bringner, Jamie Knope and Ted Robinson rounded out the top ten of a stellar 25 car field.

Coolidge Arizona native, Terry Churchwell, held on for a three peat victory in the super competitive Factory Stock division. For the 3rd straight week, Churchwell has crossed the line with a split second margin of victory.

Tony Evans escaped several speeding tickets as he eluded the stout field of Southwest Modlites. Bud Grossenbacher, Landon Cling, Adam Echter and Tony Martin filled the remaining top five positions.

Tony Pugliese and Jason Miller both received 1st place hardware in Hornet action. Pugliese topped the FWD division and Miller closed the point gap in the RWD division.
