Doesn't seem like cars have names anymore, they are all turning into vinyl graphic cluster f*cks. I like the olden days of the: Tamale Wagon, The Chizzler, Sh*t Box, Black Bandit & Brickmobile. How about everyone adding their favorite "car" names.

The "Black Duece" of Hector Honore, driven by the likes of Bobby Grim and Pete Folse.

In a lot of cases the owners name followed by the word "special" or "Chevy" was pretty common. Hence, ,my relatives car was known as the "Wilke Chevy."

Not sure if this is the car, but one famous car from Indiana it might be is the yellow 22 that Karl Kinser owned. It was driven by Larry Miller, Dick Gaines and several others and had a fearsome reputation. I believe it was a 427 big block. It ran fast for long time. I believe Keith Ford ended up with it and it ran until the late seventies and maybe earlier eighties

How about when cars were named the "so and so special". By the way all of my cars have nicknames but I can't print them here. Maybe it's because I'm the mechanic.

My dad's car was the L-n-L Chevy. One side was my mom's and the other side was my dad's. The L's represent Langel. My mom's side seemed to flip flop whenever it was damaged. The damaged side was always hers. JIM L.

Jimmy Shampine's "8-ball" race cars always struck a chord with me for some reason.
They don't even know how to spell sprint car

The Lloyd's #56 "Pocket Rocket" piloted by Smokey Snellbaker (I beleive Barry Camp may have turned it's wheel several times also).

Back "in the day" the cars were hand built and raced for many years before the owners could afford to replace them. Even the occassional "total" was usually largly salvaged to return to the track. Hector Honore's Bardahl Special/ Black Deuce/City of Roses/Bardahl Offy was only two different cars that together spanned 20 or so years of IMCA and fairgrounds action. The second car was a Hilligas car that was replaced the earlier car because it was outdated and was losing it's competitive edge. The Bardahl car was Hector's life and Bobby, Pete or any of the other drivers knew that the ride mandated total respect for the car and while crashes happened it wasn't like today. Crashes are now expected and everyone has at least one spare through away chassis if not several. Today a car is merely a tool to race. They used to be more cherished than the drivers and usually had much longer lives.

Wasn't there a sprintcar named "The Red Crush" out west? I remember it being on the cover of a very old Open Wheel Magazine. I never saw it race, however I always thought that was a cool name for a sprintcar.

In PA the Camel Express was always a classic, the Apple Car...........The Barker Buses in the moderfied ranks.........the Tamale Wagon has to be one of the alltime best though.
"The Outlaws have people out here that don’t know
anything about racing. I don’t understand how they
come up with some of the calls they do. It makes me
think that they just might be that stupid. It’s
scary." -Steve Kinser

I always thought the "used food special" was a neat name for Agajanians Indy car.
I gues the owner had the garbage contract for Los Angles County
