Okay, I don't know how to do a poll, but, who likes the "supermodified" tail tank on Sammy's car? It would have been better if they used an old style hood as well. That would have been sweet. So, who likes it? Who hates it? Gotta love the crazy stuff at the chili bowl.

LMAO.... Like the CB is a horsepower track..... There is more to nitrous than just a "bottle".... Besides, if Sammy were to ever do something like that, he would never bolt on the added weight of a bottle, he would make it integral to a chassis tube. wink

It doesn't provide a competitive advantage so it's really a non-issue.

I thought it was pretty cool looking ... personally I liked the retro look. I loved the old supers back in the day.

Me too, sprinters and midgets are so cookie cutter these days that even French Grimes thing looked good just because it was different.

i would say that kick up on the back of the tail would work like a wickerbill. just my opinion though im not an aerodynamics profesional

It looks like it would probably keep the center of gravity closer to the ground. Atleast in the pictures I didn't see it in person

it did it's job it took the attention off of what made the car fast----and no i'm not talking about sammy

StanM, maybe not a competive advantage. However, isn't there something to be said about shortening up the distance from the drivers butt to the rear of the rear bumper? I didn't measure but it has to be at least 12" less than a conventional midgets tailtank with bumper. As tight as the Bowl is, having a car that's 12" shorter from nose to tail has at least a slight advantage in traffic and completing a slide job. Of course, that's not what won the race but it is small fine details that count.

It's about freakin time someone had the balls to do something different back there.

A modern day midget/sprint tail IS a work of art. But do we really need to know or see 6,000+ of them every single damn year?

Well, it would help with cost. You could just put a normal fuel cell under it and that could be fiberglass. Save $800 at least. Tail is $1000, bladder is $1000 fuel cell is $700 or less.

I grew up watching more Supermodified racing than Sprint Car because my dad didn't care for the cageless cars after seeing a couple guys get whiped out on fence posts. So I remember some strange creations, every car looked different.

Nobody is going to beat close to 300 other cars at the Chili Bowl without a stout engine, a talented driver and a lot of luck. Sounds like it wouldn't have mattered if everyone was using the stubby tank, Sammy had them all covered this year.

The tank & bladder (under cover) is a little tall but much more offset to the left than a conventional tail.

Sammy had them covered from the word go.he won every race he was in, including starting from the back in his heat & qualifier.It wasn't any one thing but many little ones.It's cool seeing Sammy beat the big guns. He's not going to win any personality contests but the man knows how to design, build, set up, and drive a heck of a car. Heard it was the same one he's had the last five years.
