"Also, be accurate. In 2005(two years ago), ONE out of seven Indiana Sprintweek races was won from the front row. ALL were great races - possibly the best Indiana Sprintweek I can remember. One year that rivaled that was 2004, when TWO out of six races were won from the front row, and the championship battle that came down to the final corner of the final race was between two guys(Levi Jones, Dickie Gaines) who didn't win a race all week."

Hell ISW doesn't get much better than last year! Each race was won from at least row 4. Help me out here Kirk I know Neely started in row 6 or 7 at N. Vernon and Brady Short got his first USAC Nat. win at Bloomington after starting 12th. The three nights I saw Vernon, B-Town and Haubstadt was spectacular racing all the way through.

mccarlfan - I saw my first pavement race last year at IRP with the USAC Sprints and Midgets. It was probably the best racing I saw all year. Don't knock it until you try it. To see a midget average around 125mph around that place (and much faster on the straights) was a sight to behold. Plus, the side by side racing was unbelievable. I will be backto see it again this year.

team wright one - Where did I berate winged cars? Like I said, I like it all and I go to them all. Matter of fact, I will attend more winged races this year than nonwing, but I believe I am allowed to like one more than the other. When I want to see pure, raw speed, I go to a winged race. When I want to see side by side, broadsliding, racing where the driver is in the equation more than a well setup car, I go see nonwing. As far as the "Hawker" goes, my username has nothing to do with hawks...

A, you berated winged sprints when you started this topic with your first post, which said we hadn't seen any racin out of florida like the nonwing photo you posted with it. Or are you just "flip floppin".

I said, and I quote... "I haven't seen any shots like this coming out of Florida in the last few nights...". Please explain how that "berated" winged racing. At that time, I had not seen any shots like that, and I STILL haven't seen any like that. A simple fact.

I call it 3 winged sprints going 3 wide during an A main at an allstar show. Is there anything else that's painfully obvious that you would like me to explain to you?

Damn, Coach, when I read your last reply I was startin' to feel bad and all contrite that I had climbed on a guy that in not biased towards the wangers.....and then Spridge got me all straightened out. Take in Gas City some time and if you don't come away a real sprint car fan I'll give you your eight bucks back. Sorry I missed you at Volusia. I took in Friday nights show with some of my sons and grandsons. They were wicked fast and went nearly flag to flag in the featch with a ton of action as the front runners passed through the rest of the field. It was a good sprint car race but I'll take a weekly Gas City or Haubstadt or Kokomo show over it anyday of the week. I rarely go to East Bay anymore, I may be an ol' dirt racer but I have my standards and the promoter dosen't pass muster. I hope to see you and Spridge somewhere this summer. Offie

Coachbob, I hate to be the one to call you out, but someone has to do it.

First of all, if you want to sound un-biased, don't start your post with "If you go slow enough you can get a bunch of cars in a group. If you want to see a bunch of cars packed together check out rush hour."

Also, be accurate. In 2005(two years ago), ONE out of seven Indiana Sprintweek races was won from the front row. ALL were great races - possibly the best Indiana Sprintweek I can remember. One year that rivaled that was 2004, when TWO out of six races were won from the front row, and the championship battle that came down to the final corner of the final race was between two guys(Levi Jones, Dickie Gaines) who didn't win a race all week.

What races have you seen at Terre Haute? Jon Stanbrough? What race did you see him win there? Daron Clayton beat Jon this past fall in one of the best races the Action Track, and USAC Sprint Cars, has ever seen. The fall of 2005 had back-to-back shows that were just about as good as that one, and I RARELY see a show that is less than great at THAT.

East Bay did lay rubber for the Bandits shows. Were you there? It was simple, the track was brutally dry on Monday and Wednesday while it was WAY wet and tacky on Tuesday and Thursday. The Bandits races were still decent, but the winged cars were so locked-down that passing and general racing were hard to find. Lucas Wolfe was definitely the guy to watch, for me. The track was excellent for the Bandits finale, and the throttle-down, side-by-side action reflected that. It was easily the best race of the week.

Have you ever asked these guys how they like running sprint cars on a track that isn't taking rubber and/or a half-mile? Ask Rob Chaney how he liked East Bay, or how he likes Lima. Brecht came from modifieds, so you don't get to claim him. Ask Jesse how he liked Gas City, Indiana Sprintweek, or even Eldora his first time. Ask Rilat how he liked Indiana Sprintweek. The Million was a race at Eldora, which equates it more to a winged race than a sprint car race. Some have come in and performed very well on tracks that suit them, while others have worked at it long enough to become proficient on any type of surface, and I applaud them for that. Guys like Hockett, Sweet, Brecht, Stenhouse, etc. have worked through highs and lows to be on top of their game no matter the scenario. Again, please inform yourself.

Brad Sweet is running more winged shows this year because he secured a well-funded ride that can race many, many more times than he raced last year. He also convinced this team to use DRC chassis, so he can travel to the Midwest in July and August to run a bunch of sprint car races. At least ask the kid so you can know why he's doing what he's doing. He's a racer - that means he likes to RACE! And he does it in both disciplines...

Bob - I have looked over your barbs a lot in recent times, but your 5 or less sprint car races a year don't make you an expert, by any means. By making your rant, you have only labeled yourself as a strict winged sprint car fan....you obviously have no love for sprint cars, and you obviously think winged sprint cars are better. That's fine, but don't preach to the rest of us - we know where you stand.

Signed, Spridge(a guy who likes to see racers drive on the edge and battle for every inch they can grab, whether it be dirt, pavement, winged sprint car, sprint car, midget, late model, modified, champ car, whatever...)

Well said Kirk!!!

Hey Rusty, Just curious, how many traditional sprintcar races have you seen and on what tracks?

A question for Cubic Dollars. Which race and who won? I'm betting both started their careers in traditional sprints.

Another reason why "it" is better... if "it" is better. then if it is not "it" it can't be as good. so if you are rating 'it" as being better you are rating that which is not "it" as being lesser. if you are rating something as being not as good as something else you are berating it.
