I'm hoping this is just a "team selling out" thing and not a complete retirement.
Brian's one of the nicest young men out there, and it would be sad to not see him in the pilot's seat again.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

Who is left to really put the hammer down?
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

He will be missed for sure.
there have been many great drivers that took "early" retirements...
Tony Jones-on top of his game. what a way to call it a career.
anyone else want to add some names?

Brian and his wife own their own business. They may think it is time to just focus on the business. I think they have a little boy or girl, they may see the bigger picture!

The below info was posted on another board. Sounds like we still might see Brian a little bit in 2009.
From the Paulus & Pender team:
After 15 years in the
racing industry, the P and P Motorsports team will no longer be racing
in 2009. All of our racecars, equipment, and tractor trailer are for
sale. We have enjoyed our years in racing, have met many wonderful
people, and will always remember the fun times we've had.
Additional post:
Me and a few buddies visited Brian's shop this weekend and picked up
most of the stuff for sale, you can see it all at kistler race
products. Brian did say that he will be racing a select amount of shows
next year. He did keep a car and motor and some spares. Contact Dave at
Kistler's for the full list of items, plenty of stuff, complete
roller's to bare frame, so be sure to contact him for what ever you are
looking for.

My daughter FORCED us to go to our first sprint car race at Eldora several years back and a week or so later as I was coming home from work I saw Brian's rig parked in a restaurant parking lot where they had the car out working on it. I did a quick U-turn and stopped to talk to them to tell them how much we enjoyed our first sprint car race. It was the first time I had the opportunity to talk to a driver and crew. I went home and picked up my husband with his camera. We came back to the hauler and bought a t-shirt which Brian signed and took some pictures.
As if experiencing a winged sprint car race from the infield at Eldora Speedway for the first time in our lives wasn't enough to make us fans, the gracious and friendly way that Brian treated us when we stopped by his hauler was certainly the icing on the cake. We became and always will be fans of Brian Paulus whether he is driving a car or working at his business.
As a sidenote, a couple of years ago at Christmas time, my husband told me to stay out of his shop cause he was making me something. He had come up with used headers from Brian's car, painted them up, mounted them on a beautiful wood plaque along with Brian's picture with his car. It is one of the greatest Christmas gifts I have ever received and is hangin in our family room.
Best of luck, Brian and hope to see you at the races!

After I posted above I got to thinking, what other sport could I go see my first game/match, etc and then meet and talk to one of the stars who would treat a very novice fan with such courtesy?
Reading the post about the kind acts of JJ Yeley and knowing that this is NOT an isolated incident but happens every race at every track with some driver and some fan. Sometimes it is the smallest gesture that means so much.
Other professional athletes (and I DO consider racecar drivers professional athletes) have much to learn about how to treat their fans. And as fans, we need to be ever cognisant of what the heroes of our sport do for us.
Racing has the BEST teams, drivers, fans, promoters, and sponsors. Let us never forget that!
