Sherman Takes Taylor Memorial for 13th ASCS Canyon Win

Lonnie Wheatley, PHOENIX, Ariz. (October 18, 2008) – Jeremy Sherman made a late move to the front in Saturday night's 30-lap Buddy Taylor Memorial feature event atop Manzanita Speedway's ½-mile clay oval to win his 13th Discount Tire Co. American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region main event of the season.

Sherman worked his way forward from the ninth starting position aboard Fred Bryan's Wesmar-powered F&E Development No. 77 as Casey Shuman paced the early rounds from the pole position.

Shuman's bid for a third ASCS Canyon Region win of the season was cut short at the midway point with mechanical woes, with Nathan High assuming the point. High set the pace and was on course for his first series win until a caution after 26 laps put Charles Davis, Jr., and Sherman on his rear bumper.

Sherman climbed to second around Davis on the restart and then took the lead on the 27th round after a brief High bobble en route to capturing the checkered flag in front of Davis. Andrew Reinbold captured the show position, High settled for fourth and Shon Deskins rounded out the top five.

Nathan High won the Trophy Dash, with Reinbold, Davis, Mike Martin and High winning the heat races. Chris Bonneau topped the "B" Main.

A tough break, no pun intended, for Casey. He did have the field covered.. A heartbreaker for Nathan... But the never give up style of Jeremy paid off yet again. A prime example of why he is the champion for the 4th consecutive year.

How did you mean "no pun intended"? He break something on the car? Who's car was Rose in? What happened to Ream in the main?

I want to give a shout out to Mike Martin. This guy has been having by far his best productive year. Good job Mike!

I talked to Casey and he wasn't sure if the rear end blew up or if something broke, but it kicked out of gear. Bill rose was in one of the Charlie Feagan cars from New Mexico. Also Ream decided to scratch from the main, I'm not sure, but I think the motor was running to hot and he didn't want to risk hurting it. Also, Sherman hasn't clinched the championship, although it is highly unlikely that he won't win it.

Any of the Arizona drivers going to run the Oval Nationals? Sherman or Davis?

As of now I think Johnson, Reinbold, and possibly Shon Deskins and Mike Leslie are coming, but I wouldn't count on Sherman or Davis. Shuman should be coming over in the Rex Foster 32 that he won at Victorville with also.
