410s (14 Cars)
Welcome Mat Scott Winters and Justin Henderson back in the DeWall 16
MIA Marlon Jones, Bronson Maeschen, Billy Alley, Ryan Bickett
VIP Turn 1 again with the usual suspects in LDA24's family.
Time Trials (1 lap each) Jake Peters (9th out) set quick time for the 2nd time of the year with a time of 10.751. Scott Winters was 2nd quick with a 10.866 lap. The top 6 cars broke into the teens. All cars made the heat inversion as well. The rest of the order: Mark Dobmeier, Justin Henderson, Gregg Bakker, Chad Meyer, Johnn Cressman, John Lambertz, Wade Nygaard, Gordy Vogelaar, Mitch Runge, Chuck McGillivray, Jody Rosenboom, and Dusty Ballenger.
Time Trials Grade: A-; qualifications are actually starting to be pretty entertaining to watch with about 6-8 cars that can go out and drop quick time on any night.

Heat 1 Finish: 13 57x 28 6 11x/ 4 56
Heat 1 Notes: Rosenboom was very tardy on the start giving the lead to Runge on the get go. The outside row was able to move up nicely due to the bad start of the #6 and Cressman was coming after Runge. He would take the lead on the third lap but a caution would come out a lap later for the 56 as he came to a stop with ignition woes. Dobmeier would dispose of Runge, who had the restart lead, and check out for his 2nd heat win of the year. Peters moved up very nicely as well coming from last to 2nd.

Heat 2 Finish: 2D D1 12L 101 23w/ 33 1w
Heat 2 Notes: Ballenger took off with the initial lead as Henderson moved up to 2nd three laps into the heat. A good battle between Winters and Vogelaar ensued for the feature inversion spot with Winters taking it early on and holding on with limited brakes. Ballenger would hold on for his 4th heat win of the year ahead of Henderson.
Heat Grades: B; the first heat may have been one of the best, if not the best on the year with Dobmeier and Peters moving up very nicely on a narrow track. The 2nd heat lacked that excitement and that's why the heat grade is where it is.
B Feature (Top 4 Tag the A, 12 Laps) Starting Order: No B Feature as all cars started the A.

Initial start was good with Bakker taking off with the lead ahead of Longhair. Dobmeier quickly moved his way up to 2nd on the third lap with Peters following him step-and-step. A caution on lap 7 was thrown for Henderson, who was getting passed for 5th, when a fuel line broke on the car and he was done for the night.
The restart saw Bakker leading Dobmeier, Lambertz, Peters, and Winters to the green. Bakker would go high into turn 1 leaving the door open for Dobmeier coming off the bottom in turn 2. Dobs would give Bakker a patented slidejob in turn 3 while Bakker came roaring off the bottom with a crossover move. Bakker tried to slide Dobs back on the next lap in turn 1 but just came up a little bit short, handing the race over to the Lunstra/Dobmeier 13 team.
A caution occurred on lap 8 for Runge and Nygaard getting together down the backstretch. Winters would get not one, but two, flat tires due to bleeder issues under the yellow leaving his crew and others a lot of work to do in the work area. It looked like the 23w was going to get back out for the race but was never pushed off by the push truck in time and they'd be done for the night along with Nygaard and Runge.
A hot laps session occurred for the top 3 the rest of the way for those 15 laps with the outcome never in doubt. Dobmeier would sail to win his 7th feature of the year at Huset's and sweeping the weekend with a win last night at Knoxville. It was his 27th career 410 win at the track and also his 18th 410 win of the year. There's no doubt he'll break 20 before the years over. Bakker led laps 1-6 with Dobmeier leading the rest of the way 7-25.
Finish: 13 11x 57x 12L 1w 2D 33 6 101 23w/ 4 28 D1 56
A Feature Grade: C; it could have been a dandy had Bakker landed the returned slider on Dobmeier, but it wasn't going to be that way. Pretty boring feature after that as only 8 cars crossed the line at the checkers.
360s (21 Cars, 18 Laps) Dustin Evink took off with the lead early on, but was run down by Eric McGillivray on the 5th lap in the nonstop 18 lap affair. Robby Wolfgang moved up to 2nd with 4 laps to and was able to hold off Casey Abbas for the position for a very solid runner-up finish. Jody Rosenboom would finish 4th with a pass coming off of turn 4 at the checker on Trisha Underberg. Abbas and Rosenboom both came from the 6th row. Evink led laps 1-4 while McGillivray led 5-18.
360 Finish: 35 1 17v 27 11 21v 12 10 76 24/ 4 17 17B 11K 3D E85 21 1z
FOAW: We might as well just name the whole award after Dobmeier, but we'd have to re-arrange the lettering as he is a "Current Outlaw Ass Whipper" with that one win under his belt. Robby Wolfgang also looked impressive this week with that runner-up finish.
Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: Having Hot Rod and Huset's put on a fundraiser for Jeff Shepard. Hot Rod gave all the profits from the Hoseheads Radio shirts that were sold tonight to the Shepard fund for the transportation of him back to Balitmore. I haven't seen a final number yet but I'm guessing it was close to a grand. Thanks to Hot Rod for doing this for Shepard family, very classy move.
Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: Starting the night off with the fast national anthem singer. I remember from the Super Bowl the over/under from Vegas of how long it would take was 1 minute 50 seconds. So The Report decides to time this guy and he finishes her up in just over 52 seconds. That guy knows how to put smile on people's faces even though there was no scream at the end this time.
WTF: What in the hell was going on with Henderson hopping in the 16 car of DeWall's tonight. I'm just going to say it was very suspicious to see two drivers in one pit stall with driver suits on deciding on whose going to drive the car. VIP had quite the chuckle as to reasonable explanations as to what was really going on.
"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: C'mon, no mention of the "buddy boy" quote from a week ago. No way that it shouldn't be said at least once a night for the remainder of the year.
Mulligan Moment: Its going to myself again. The Report has come to the conclusion that when the 23w has had bad luck this season that it isn't because of the infamous Wertz Designs jinx of when he sponsors a car. It comes when I'm in attendance, there's a 75% chance of something going wrong with the car. I'm sorry Scott and the entire 23w team, but there's not much I can do!
Head Scratcher: Cressman's just having horrible luck on the year. He was checked out in the heat until ignition issues came to bring his night to an end. He would have been on the pole for the feature as well had he been able to hang on in the heat.
Thumbs Up: To the races being over at 9:20 tonight. No cars would get upside down tonight and that is always a plus. The only downside to the races being over so early were…
Thumbs Down: .. the lowest car count of the year with 14 cars. When the count is that low, there aren't that many races resulting in races getting over very early. The dog days of summer must really be hitting the local racers as this was the 19th 410 event of the year at the track.
Prime Mover: Meyer was the hard charger passing 8 cars by moving from 13th to 5th, even though that came as a result of attrition of the cars that DNF'd.
Trophy Queen Grade: Hey here we go, something positive to talk about. Two new girls in victory lane and nothing to complain about either with how good they looked. I won't mind having these two back in the future.
Closing Stat of the Night: Still can't get over the fact that Dobmeier has 18 410 feature wins on the year. I don't know if there's anything official on it, but I'm guessing that's up in the top 2 in the nation for wins. The guy is the real deal, but lets see him do it from 5+ rows back like McCarl always had to do!
Final Thought: The Report will likely be off next week as school is kicking off and there will be a "few activities" going on down there. The next Report will probably come at the WoO show at Spencer, followed by the Season Championship that Sunday at Huset's. Until then, you stay classy San Diego.
