8/23 RESULTS BELOW...

There have been wide ranges in rainfall totals throughout the DFW area this week. And with Devil's Bowl raining out their ASCS event scheduled for this Saturday, August 23; the action and the series will shift west across town on I-20 to Kennedale's Cowtown Speedway.

The ASCS Gulf South region will have a sanctioned point event at Cowtown Speedway this Saturday, with hot laps around 6:30pm and races at 7pm.

Adult grandstand tickets will be $15, with youth tickets $5 and kids $2. Tickets can be purchased online at
www.CowtownSpeedway.com or you can purchase tickets by cash at the gate. Pit passes will be $30.

This addition joins the previously scheduled events at Cowtown on August 23; featuring the $1,000 to win Entertainment Company topless modifieds, along with all other weekly classes. Additional purse money will be added for all weekly classes as well.

Take advantage of this last-minute update and we hope to see you all at the Fastest Lil' Dirt Track in Texas - Cowtown Speedway - this Saturday night for a 'tune up' for the big Cowtown Sprint Nationals coming up in October!

As of Friday night, everything is still on schedule for Saturday night's ASCS event at Cowtown Speedway.

According to the NWS, the weather forecast between now and race time is dry and in the low 90's, with the exception that Saturday between 3pm and 8pm there is a 30% chance of thunderstorms.

We hope to see many of you at Cowtown Speedway for a night of fast-paced racing action!

8/23 Race Day Update:

Now the NWS has dropped their afternoon precip chances from 30% to 20%, with a high of 91; so it should be a great night for wall to wall racing on the 1/4 mile high banks!

You can also expect some 'invaders' to show up. That's the cool thing with ASCS rules, you just never know who will sign in at the pit gate!

Don't forget the Topless Modifieds battling for $1,000 to win...

And all for $15!

Reminder, if you plan to purchase your tickets online at www.CowtownSpeedway.com - please do so prior to 4pm today - otherwise you can pay by cash at the ticket window when you get there!

Am I seeing double on the Mapquest arial view or are there two dirt tracks right next to each other down there? There's a guy down in our Ft. Worth headquarters that sometimes mentions that he goes to Cowtown so I thought I'd look it up and can't believe what I'm seeing. Do they run different nights or is one closed and the other a promoter's new track?

No Stan, you are not seeing double. There are in fact two dirt tracks next door to each other. Several years ago a guy who wasn't satisfied with the way Cowtown was being run approached the lady that owns the property asking to be the promoter. She would not turn the track over to him, so he told her that he owned the land adjacent to Cowtown and would build his own track. She told him go for it and he did. At least that is the story I had heard. This track has already gone dark once and needs to go dark permanently. No, it doesn't run on a different night. The only thing different is that it runs IMCA sanction. So when IMCA racers leave this track they don't go to Cowtown, they travel 1 1/2 hours to another IMCA sanctioned track. So the two tracks aren't really competing for cars so much. They are competing for fans though.

I would encourage you to check out Cowtown. It's a great track, and the ASCS usually puts on a great show. I went to the other track one time and was not impressed at all. I haven't seen ASCS sprints there though. Even with those guys there I'm not sure I'd wanna go to that one.

The wife and I have been talking about taking a trip down to Corpus one of these days so I just might do that. That would be fun to visit a track and take photos all the way down in Texas.

It's a Kolt 45 Night in ASCS Gulf South Go at Cowtown!

Lonnie Wheatley, KENNEDALE, Texas (August 23, 2008) – West Texas shoe Kolt Walker corralled his first career American Sprint Car Series feature win by wiring the field in Saturday night's 25-lap ASCS Gulf South Region main event at Cowtown Speedway.

The ASCS Sooner Region title contender became the 12th different winner of the season in ASCS Gulf South Region competition as the series completed its 17th event of the season with a first-time stop atop the high-banked, ¼-mile Cowtown Speedway clay oval.

"I was getting tired of all the second's and third's and getting on my head, we've done that a lot lately so this is nice," the 25-year-old Walker commented afterward. "That car was working great and it seemed like the harder I drove it the better it worked."

After earning a heat race win, Walker drew the pole position for the feature event. He took full advantage by pacing all 25 circuits aboard the ASI-powered Texas Moon No. 45k Maxim.

The biggest threat to deny Walker his first win appeared to be past ASCS National champion Travis Rilat, who was on the charge from 11th starting position. Rilat had climbed five positions by the fifth lap and was fourth by the tenth round.

Rilat wrestled third away from Brandon Berryman at the midway point and was working on Eric Baldaccini for second when he clipped an infield tire exiting turn two on the 19th lap. A lap later, Rilat stopped with front end damage. Rilat rejoined the chase after quick repairs, but the distance to make up was too great.

Walker raced to the checkered flag over the final six-lap charge unchallenged, with Baldaccini securing runner-up honors after taking the position from Michael McNeil four laps into the race.

Reigning ASCS Gulf South champion Brandon Berryman moved atop the point charts by claiming the show position, with Kevin Ramey and McNeil rounding out the top five.

Dalton Steed posted his top finish in ASCS action by crossing the stripe in sixth, while Claud Estes earned Hard Charger honors by racing from 18th to seventh. Gary Watson was eighth, Rilat rebounded for ninth and John Ricketts completed the top ten.

The initial attempt to start the feature was waved off when sixth-starter George White spun in turn one with Darrell Fletcher tumbling down the frontstretch in the ensuing scramble.

After starting eighth, Trey Robb blitzed to third by the completion of the second lap only to bring out the caution moments later when he slid too high in turn four and tagged the wall.

After winning Friday night's feature at Heart O' Texas Speedway, Greg Rilat surrendered the series points lead when he was caught up in a "B" Feature tangle in which both Chris Sweeney and Brian Parker got upside down.

Robb, Walker, White and McNeil topped heat race action for the 36-car field, with J.P. Bailey and Terry Monroe winning the twin 12-lap "B" Mains.
