'Showdown at Cowtown' pits region's top ASCS vs. Cowtown Speedway sprint drivers on June 28-THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO JULY 26, PLEASE READ UPDATE BELOW

6/23/08. Kennedale, TX, by DarinShort.com.

Who will reign supreme at Saturday night's running of the Showdown at Cowtown? Will it be an ASCS sprint hot shoe, or one of the strong contingent of Cowtown Speedway area sprint car drivers?

We'll all find out when the ASCS Sprint Cars return to town and will take on the best of Cowtown Speedway when both groups converge atop the ultra-fast high banks of Cowtown Speedway on Saturday night, June 28.

The first two ASCS events of 2008 at Cowtown Speedway provided fans with wild action and huge fields of cars from throughout the region. D/FW area sprint driver standout Travis Rilat picked up the April victory; with versatile Oklahoma transplant Gary Taylor (formerly of Washington state) picking up the May victory.

Adult tickets are still just $15, and advance tickets can be purchased on the track website, CowtownSpeedway.com – and there is no added convenience charge to use your credit card for online purchase.

Joining the ASCS division will be the Limited Modifieds, Street Stocks, Bombers, Jr. Bombers plus the popular Winged 600's.

With hot laps around 6:30pm and the first green flag scheduled to drop at 7pm for the fast-paced show; make your plans now to be a part of the Cowtown Shootout at the Fastest Lil' Dirt Track In Texas – Cowtown Speedway, in Kennedale.

With the TX vs. OK 'score' tied at 1-1 in 2008 ASCS action at Cowtown Speedway, let's take a look back through the years at how the rivalry has shaken out:

2007: OK 2 (Brian McClelland and Nick Smith), TX 1 (Kevin Ramey).

2006: TX 3 (sam15.com, two wins; Travis Rilat one win), OK 0.

2005: OK 1 (Sean McClelland), TX 1 (Travis Rilat), and for the only time in the current century, someone from outside of OK or TX picked up an ASCS victory at Cowtown and that was Jason Martin of KS.

2004: OK 1 (Andy Shouse), TX 1 (Kevin Ramey).

So, the current score going into Saturday nights' Cowtown Showdown is:

TX 7
OK 5
KS 1

With a win by the OK 'team' this Saturday, that will bring the score within 1 win going into the huge, inaugural 2-day ASCS National Tour event that will take place at Cowtown Speedway in October.

So, if the OK team picks up a win this Saturday, and sweeps the October event, they will end the year leading the TX team by 1 - do you think the TX team is going to let that happen?

There were 42 sprint cars in the field at the first ASCS event of the season in April at Cowtown Speedway, and 41 in the May event.

I am going to guess there will be 38 sprint cars in the pits tonight at the Cowtown Shootout.

A couple of cars that would probably have been there are at the ASCS National tour event in SD, but the Gulf South is 'off' tonight, plus it's possible that some I-30 area 'invaders' may appear due to weather up there; so we'll see how it all shakes out in a few hours.

And there's 5 racing divisions joining the sprint cars, all regular classes except the Cowtown Modifieds.

And although there is a small chance of thunderstorms later in the evening, the storm complex in KS and OK is not supposed to drift south into the Metroplex until sometime after midnight. So it should be a great night for racing - hope to see you all there!

A lightning fast track greeted a full field of ASCS and Cowtown Sprint Car teams on Saturday June 28.

As a matter of fact, the sprint cars sent mud flying to the top rows of the grandstands and beyond - onto cars in the parking lot, then...

Due to pesky storm that came shortly after the start of the racing program, the Cowtown Showdown was forced to be rescheduled to Saturday, July 26.

The program will remain the same as scheduled - see www.cowtownspeedway.com/ASCS.html for event flyer. The entire event will be held beginning with heat races.

Refunds were issued for tickets and pit passes at the track on 6/28, so rain checks will not be honored at a later date.

Reminder:

The Cowtown Shootout between the ASCS vs Cowtown Sprint Cars is this Saturday, July 26.

On the original race date (rain out from June) the modifieds were scheduled off.

However, both the modifieds and the limited modifieds are on the schedule for July 26. The Street Stocks are off instead.

And this entire action packed show has a price of just $15 for adult grandstand admission. For complete details, please visit www.CowtownSpeedway.com and we hope to see you on Saturday night!

PS: and there is no National or other Regional ASCS event scheduled in the area, so it will be interesting to see if some 'invaders' show up at Cowtown to try to steal a victory.
