I didnt get to make it for the race. I was wondering how the track was? Dust Bowl like last year? Racy? Follow the leader? Just wondering if the track prep team has gottin a handle on it this year since all the sprint car races (wing & non wing) last mainly sucked.

I have only been to three races at Eldora lately, but I did make it over last night. I was sitting in turn 3, and it was a dust bowl. At times, it was pretty challenging to watch. Is this normal for the track? I thought with the heavy rain that went through Friday night that the track would be in perfect shape. The race was average last night. Kinser made it exciting with holding up Myers and then Schatz pulled off some great passes for the victory.
Thought the crowd was small for an Outlaws show and not many campers. Of course, the Kings Royal week is only about six weeks away, so I'm sure that factored in.
What did everyone else think?

Was there this year for the first Outlaw show, a strong west wind saved the night, but sitting in turn one I could not see the cars in turn three. The May USAC show produced so much dust in the main grandstands, I moved to turn three, the wind was from the east, and sitting in turn three I could not see the cars coming down the backstretch during the feature. I believe even Tracy Hines commented in victory lane about being scared because he couldn't see the other cars due to the dust.
It's really too bad, this place was dusty at times with Earl, but never anuthing remotely close to what I've witnessed the last two years. I think the new surface is just dirt, no clay, just dirt.
I used to go to every race there, and this year I'm planning on only five. Maybe from the comments about the crowd others are doing the same. Maybe $4 gas and a dustbowl are keeping them away. Really sad, used to love going here, now I'm just disgusted by the whole thing.

Not that big of a crowd?? It was actually pretty big for a 1 day WOO show. Not many campers??? You got to remember it was a 1 day show. Its the most campers I have seen there all year for a 1 day show and the second most campers all year. Track did get dusty in the A because they watered the middle on down right before the A. All that did was create the dust since it was already slicking up and the dust was already pretty much blown off the track. A great 3 car battle upfront for most of the A Main.

Huh??? Explain again, cause I don't see how adding water to the track makes dust... maybe it's just the malt liquor and cheap wine fuzzing my brain. Water = Dust??? I learn something new everyday.
Cheers!

One thing I've learned in the last couple years of travel to Eldora.
Heavy Eldrora + Winged Sprint Cars = Boring locked down follow the leader.

When the track is already slicking-up turning dark in spots and the dust is blown off those spots, adding water just creates the dust again. You have never seen a track start to get slick and where there is little dust, then they water it a little, not a truck load of water, just a light sprinkle, then it gets real dusty? Once it starts to get slick all water does is create more dust that was once blown off that area. It happens quite a bit even with the cheap wine and malt brews.

Kinda funny how I started this topic about the track surface, and today on Eldora's web site is a write up about how they prep the surface for the Prelude. Smoke say's Larry & Larry2 and Chad (Earls grandson) work 7 days a week an prepping the track for the up coming race weekend.loloolollolol OOOO my gut hurts. They let the track dry out more than normal so it slow the speeds down for the Prelude (so it equals the field for the non-experience drivers on dirt). Ok i'll give them credit for that cause of the car owners. No Prob. Also it helps keep the dust down for the PPV part (rrrrrrrrrrrrHorsshhhhhhhhhhhht).
He also say's the WoO and USAC needs it soft and grippy for the speeds. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Am I missing something here. I think the best shows Ive seen is when the track slicks off n slows down. It puts back into the drivers hand when they run 20 straight laps. Traffic comes into play. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

I thought the race was pretty good, just more dusty than I prefer. Anytime you see pass for the lead with under five to go, that puts on a pretty good show. Hopefully, for Kings Royal weekend the track will be in better shape.
