Decided to go to Jackson tonight. Heard the races had been getting done early and program was being run smoothly. Well I was not impressed tonight. 52 total cars...28 sprints(both classes), 24 stocks(hobbys and streeters). If you start a race program at 7 and get done after 1030 with 52 cars there might a problem. Track was an absolute plowed field. That hole in turn 1 is a joke. Its there every time I go to Jackson and we're very lucky the drivers dont get seriously hurt out there. I love watching sprinters and like watching them at Jackson, but a guy cant enjoy the races on a night like tonight. I'll drive the extra hour to Deer Creek on Saturdays and watch Mods and Lates, and if I wanna watch sprints I guess I'll hafta head to knoxville.

as for results- strandberg won the hobbys, schroeder the stocks, phipps the db's, and boles was leading with 5 to go when I left in the 360's.

just a little frustrated.

So what was the big delay tonight? Last week the races were over by 9:15pm!

the track for starters there was were alot of wrecks due to the track and the flagman. and there was rain in the area at 7 so they decided that we should take an extra 20 mins and roll the track in. at the start of the sprint feature a car stalled well before the starting line and they decided to throw the green when eveyong got to the stalled car aj stevens went over a tire and smashed hard in to the gaurd rail. way to go officials going to get some one killed if that keeps going on. i go every week and tonight was the worst ive seen in quite a while.

I agree that the track wasn't in the best of shape. But we have received a lot of rain this past week so I imagine the packing wasn't done as well as the past weeks. I believe that those "ruts" caused the problems and delayed getting the races done in a timely fashion. Hopefully - Mother Nature will be nicer this coming week so the track gets the prep that it needs. Also a couple more flag men around the track would help so incidents like tonight could be avoided.

Jackson 5.31.08

360 Sprints 18 cars

Feature (20 laps)

1- 05 Bill Boles (1)

2- 99v Gordy Vogelaar (2)

3- 24 Jesse Drost (6)

4- 99 Shawn VanWyhe (10)

5- 7m Chad Meyers (13)

6- 87 Curt Lund (14) Great finish after rolling his car on lap 1.

7- 1B Brett Geldner (12)

DNF 75c Casey Heser (16) overheating problems

DNF 1W Mitch Runge (4)

DNF 32A Nathan Anderson (17)

DNF 23w Scott Winters (16) had raced up to 3rd before broken part slowed car and retired for night.

DNF 34 Brad Barakman (3)

DNF 75 Brandon Geldner (8)

DNF 18 Russel Weise (18) Great work by the crew after flipping in hot laps to make the feature with the loan of Boles spare top wing.

DNF 1HD Jake Leighty (11) Opted to start in the rear due to some problems.

DNF 2 Neil Stevens (7)

DNF 7 AJ Stevens (5) Crash on opening lap when caution came out.

DNS 5m Troy Manteufel (9) Car lost power going into turn three on initial start.

Track conditions were challenging for all drivers as the massive amounts of rain made for some very soft spots on the track, especially in the corners. The first attempt at starting the feature saw 5m not make it around under power and the caution coming out for his stalled car. While drivers were checking up for the caution, the 7 car kept going and jumped a tire, throwing his car into the back stretch guard rail and ending his night. On that caution, 34, 87, and 18 all visited the work area before continuing at the back of the pack. The second attempt saw rookie driver struggle on the tricky track as he spun his machine off of turn two bringing out a caution before the first lap was recorded. The third attempt was the charm as the majority of the field made the first lap before the red flag flew for 87 who gently tipped over in turn four while trying to avoid a bouncing 75. The second lap was all that was recorded before the caution would again fly for the 75 digging in turn one and nearly rolling the car. The next four laps were led by Boles as Winters was flying around the high side above the soft spots and quickly moved up from 16th to 3rd by lap 5. Lap 7 was the end as Winters was the caution when his car broke, ending his night. As lap 7 resumed, 10 cars remained on the speedway. Boles continued to lead Vogelaar as Drost moved past Runge for 3rd. The field was slowed once more on lap 15 when Anderson had smoke and fluid come from under the hood. Heser and Runge retired under the caution leaving seven cars to battle it out. No one was able to catch Boles as he recorded his first feature victory of the year at Jackson.

As far as the initial start of the 360s, the field was already entering turns 3-4 when 5m slowed, not knowing if he was going to pull in on turn four or stop. For safety reasons the green had to be thrown to avoid the pile up possibility on the front stretch. As the cars went down into turn 1, they were told over their raceceivers that the caution was coming out. The majority of drivers lifted going down the back as they knew of the caution. Stevens did not appear to be slowing at all, so either he didn't hear the caution or see the yellow light. It is unfortunate that Stevens did not get to race as he looked good in the heat race, finishing 2nd.

It was a disappointment that the weather was so wonderful tonight for racing, but the extreme moinsture that mother nature dumped on the track earlier in teh week made for the challenging conditions. One of these weeks, everything will fall into place and things will go well.

Thanks to promoter Jon McCorkell for the entertaining intermission when he wrestled for charity and got thrown into a mud puddle!!! He was a good sport, and very muddy after the event. The charity was the Children's Miricle Network as tonight 75 and 75c participated in "Pink my Ride" with pink nose wings and drivers raised over $1000 for the charity before McCorkell's donation for each ticket sold for the grandstands.

I will say the track did suck. But the rain over the week just killed any possibilty of having a good track.this was Jackson's first bad conditions this year.Knoxville had their's a couple of weeks ago same deal ruts all over the place single file affair around the bottom.Husets has had holes going into three and out of four, hole in four is gone but turn three is really bad.So just take a chill pill.

fairmonts track was smooth and even got dry with 1 less day to dry out and the same amount of rain as jackson. i dont think you can blame it all on mother nature.
