The following is from a friend that can't do computers well enough to become a posting "Hoser" and he asked me to post this for him.

Knoxville has bent over backwards to try and please everyone since I can remember. I hope Cappy and his crew quit worrying about all the negative posts on the internet about cancelling or not cancelling races. Last night to try and help 15 racers from the IRA (the majority, small time weekend warriors) they were prepared to take the financial beat down from hell and run a race with if lucky (due to threatening weather) about 300 fans in the stands. There is not a dirt or paved track in the country that would be willing to flush 25 grand away to try and help racers that come in once a year. Those of you that opine constantly what is wrong with this or wrong with that about Knoxville might want to remember gestures like this when you rip Cappy, the fair board, track employees or any others involved with Knoxville raceway. You will NEVER find a track that worries anymore about their drivers and fans than Knoxville. So, when you read negative opinions about those mentioned above, please keep this in mind.

Strange wings, just wondering, did it rain at Knoxville last night? Radar showed rain over most of central Iowa Saturday that started in Knoxville around 7 or 7:30pm.

Just noticed adnhotrod posted last night it started raining "in earnest" at the racetrack at 7:25. Are they suppose to race in the rain? It rained most of the night over south central & southeast Iowa.

Radar looked bad most of the day with rain heading toward Knoxville but it seems Cappy & crew kept trying in hope of a gap in the rain going over the track and letting them get the show in.

People complain if they cancel early so racers & fans can look for somewhere to go for racing where it's not raining & they complain if they don't cancel till it rains at the track even when it is obvious at noon it is going to happen.

Once it started raining, it didn't quit.

way to make everyone drive there when you know that rain is coming i am no weather man but god dang i could have told you that the rain was coming. all you have to do is get on the internet and pull up the weather for saturday night and then decide to call them or not. its not a matter of money to them because everynite that they race they are losing money. its all made up at nationals. im sure everyone has heard that!

Push truckin and Strange Wings, maybe dirt track racin isn't the sport for you. Get into something indoors, maybe basketball, hockey, a donkey show in Mexico, whatever. Just don't act like you're the wise ones after the fact.

Great post 3rd turn's friend.

To twist an old saying -- "You can please some of the people some of the time --- but there's some people you can't please none of the time." To the complainers I say "You can change your underwear but you can't change the weather ... so do everybody a favor - shut your mouth and go change your underwear."

Knoxville was f---ed no matter what they did. I think they should try to get these in and not let racers that travel dictate the decisions so much or so early. No one is twisting anyone's arm to come to Knoxville to race. I've driven there in threatening weather to watch and to race and have no problem with them trying to get it in no matter what. Of course maybe the travelers get the blame when it's really the possibility of a small crowd that gets the plug pulled.

I made the attempt knowing full well rain was in the area and certainly on the way. Due the slight chance that "What if it didn't.." I would have felt worse for a race that was run and staying at home doing the woulda, coulda, shoulda....

Thanks to those in the Knoxville region calling me on the road trip to let me know well in advance to turn back home to find an alternative race for the night rather than drive all the way for nothing.

so. If cappy & crew, are willing to drop $25 g's to get the night in (applauded efforts, buy the way) did they pay teams tow $, that were in town for the show?

I don't have a problem with them calling the races early. I hate when they call them early, where there is no threat of rain, but only would take some work to get everything in shape. On the other hand I have seen 80% chance of rain, and some how or way Knoxville misses it.

I'm sure Bill W could set this straight, but I believe in the past all teams that made it to the track and the races were called off were paid tow money. Seems it was $100. More for the top 10 teams. Do not know if that is the policy now.

I'm one that just likes to read about what is going on in the sprint car world but this post kind-of got me to thinking.

With all the EXPERTS" that like to post about what is wrong with the way the different track are run, maybe they should go and get one of the many tracks that are now sitting idle and start up a sprint car program - I know where a track is sitting empty in northern Iowa that they could most likely get.

And just remember guys when you get the track you need to pay a good purse ($25,000 a night might cover it) - and of course don't forget the wages - insurance and other costs associated with the program.

And remember NO RAIN OUTS - and maybe you can start the 1st of March.

Im not sure if i am looking at this right? top ten teams? or is it ,maybe, first ten teams sighned in? Just curious, I know of some cars that would be coming quite a ways ,

As for weekly sprint shows, I dont think some people on here realize how good they have it ,Id rather watch a field of 283 sprints, hitting on seven,on a "one lane train" track, rather than, another "gong show", amber filled, taxi cab race!,

our local track goes through a pallet of yellow lightbulbs just for one night! intermission they plant three rows of corn that never grows, then four circus clowns and a twelve foot ladder appear on the racing surface (to change lamps), a disgrunteled (volenteer and threatened) Rat walks around aiding to the sugar high kids, as soon as the first two features finish sliding all over everything, but the track, we finally evolve into a dry racing surface with a chicken shit top (loose) groove (not so) thingie? so, whoever survives the torcher, wins ! ( im told we have the best racing right here) the fans go home with sleeping kids, then take a muddy shower ,and try revive from the caution light sunburns. sound like fun?

I had a long talk about this with my brother earlier this week because of our frustration and cost associated with rain-outs. From my standpoint I prefer the "do everything possible to get it in and cancel as a last resort" scenario.

So far this year I have invested over $1,000 and a lot of time to fly from Florida back to the midwest to attempt to be there for our first two scheduled race weekends (April 19th and 26th). Both weekends rained out early with no actual rain either weekend and mostly sunny skies and decent (or at least good enough) weather both weekends. Big time frustrating.

On the 19th we already hauled to Knoxville the night before because Dodge County cancelled early. The 26th cancelled before we hauled anywhere but it was too late either weekend to cancel or change flights. This past weekend we hauled to Knoxville again only to see the skies open up at 7:00.

From my standpoint it is more costly to our team to have races cancelled early when they could have run than to have races cancelled late because of actual rain. We have expensive equipment sitting there and unless it's racing we don't get any revenue, and that loss of revenue is usually a lot more than our cost to tow.

We all want to race every single night we can. That's why we do it. Personally I commend Cappy and Knoxville for trying to get it in no matter how bleak the forecast looked. I wish all tracks/promotors did that all of the time.
