I hate to hear this. Okay - I'm in Texas so don't get up there very often, but I hate to hear of any track closing their gates. I've been there and I liked the track - as far as I remember. It was in the 70's when I was there... for Ohio Speedweek.

Sad News.
carol14, I doubt if it was a speedweek show if it was in the seventies. Speedweek started in 1983 if I remember correctly. But the track hasn't changed in configuration much since the seventies.

There were mid-week allstar shows there in the 70's I think. Maybe thats what she was refering to? I remember reading a history somewhere that talked about it but I can't remember the specifics.

Has anyone seen an official press release on this yet? I know there has been ongoing litigation with the track and neighbors? in the past year. I saw the post on the WCS forum, but it seems unusual to not at least have an official press release stating if the track is closed for the year or not.
There is info on the speedways mainpage explaining to contact the office for raincheck refunds and refunds for 2008 pit passes and transponder rentals. So there seems to be some validity to it.

I guess there is really nothing that we race fans can do about people moving in around a race track then managing to get rid of the "nuisance track". I fear that the Devil's Bowl might be facing the same thing - after moving to the middle of nowhere because neighborhoods grew up around the "Old Bowl". There used to be an airport near the Old Bowl too. De-ja-vu???
As for the 70's Ohio "Speedweek" - I really don't remember what it was called but there was a sprint car race about every night at an Ohio track - and maybe the Western Pennsy tracks. I can't remember if that is when I was in Western Pennsy or not. Man - that was a long time ago.
However, I do remember Paul Pitzer taking out Rick Ferkel big time at one of the tracks. Everyone was furious with Pitzer except Rick. He said it straightened out the frame and it handled better after it. The next night Rick lapped Pitzer and when Pitzer realized it was Rick he moved as far away from Rick as he could. I guess the Ferkel fans got their point across.
