This is going to be another lengthy explanation but stick with me....it's worth it!

Modified racers, car owners & teams,

What can a $25 entry fee and a $30 pit pass price bring these days?

Well, if the day is this particular Sunday evening/night ((((( MAY 4TH ))))) and the place is Fast Trax Speedway in north central Louisiana, and the event is the 2nd Annual Doug Murphrey Memorial, it can bring you a night of fast paced and rewarding racing competition that is also just flat out fun!

Here's what we got:

-- A nearly $17,000, one-night purse for Open Wheel Modifieds alone! USMTS rules, AR KK704 or Hoosier G60 tires only.

-- A minumum of 35 teams will go home with AT LEAST $250.

-- AND a minimum of 13 teams will go home with at least $500

-- Non-qualifiers who don't get at least $250, will go into a drawing where we (thanks only to our sponsors) will give away a full body wrap (Showtime Graphics), 4 $50 gift certificates (Day Motorsports), 2 $100 cash awards (Ark-La-Tex Speedway), parts and/or gift certificate (from Kraft Kar Race Cars). The drawing will take place right after the last feature beside the pay window. More "stuff" may be added to this list so stay tuned. Again these prizes are for NON-QUALIFIERS only and not for the ones who get at least $250 on the night. Call us if you're a sponsor who would like to add to this list of prizes! 318-325-4568, 318-312-0387 or 318-294-0282.

-- Possible $2500 to win -- Possible? -- NO, I mean THERE WILL BE $2500 PAID OUT TO FIRST PLACE CARS. This is not one of those "if you set fast time, win the dash, win the heat, sweep both features, lead the most laps, have Jupiter align with Mars and we'll give you a bonus" kind of deals. No. 1st place in the first 25 lap feature pays $1000. 1st place in the 2nd 25-lap feature also pays $1000. First place in points between the two races pays $500. $2500 WILL BE PAID OUT TO FIRST PLACES. Can one car win it all? Yes. But not without a little work!

-- Paydowns for TWO (2) 25-Lap features. EACH ONE PAYS DOWN LIKE THIS: 1000-600-450-350-300 & 6th-25th pays $250.

Well that's no fun if 6th through 25th is going to pay the same for everybody? Cars will just pull off. Right?

Not so fast, we have a twist!

-- The Twist: Everyone draws into a heat race. USMTS passing points in use. The top 25 will start heads up in the first A main. The rest will go to the B-mains. 57 or less cars (That was last year's car count by the way) and we will have two Bs. 16-cars or less in each. 15-laps. Top 5 from each go to the SECOND A main (the finale for the night!). Which means the top 15 finishers from the first A-main will run in the second A-main as well only......They will start INVERTED! That's right. The winner of the first A will start 15th in the second A and have 25 laps to get back to first, win the race and collect the WHOLE $2500 if he can do it! The guy who finishes 15th in the first A, gets the pole for that second $1000 to win race and is guaranteed at least $500 along with the other 14 guys who finished in front of him in that first A. The guys who finish 16th back in the first A??? They put in or on the trailer and collect their $250.

-- 58 or more cars? Little difference but not much. Same format except we'll do three or four, 12-lap B mains and take the top 4 or the top 3 (12 cars) to the second A. This means only 13 will transfer from the first A (again inverted, so 13th place from the first A gets the pole in the second A and 14th place goes to the trailer) and therefore only 13 will make $500 or more BUT 37 teams now will get at least $250 so the total purse payout is the same $16,900 -- GUARANTEED -- whether we have 57 cars OR LESS or 58 cars or more.

-- In addition the top 5 in points for the two races will divide up $1500 provided by DJ Production Co. with a paydown of 500-400-300-200-100. Ties are broken by the second A-main finish.

-- Confused? Well if we were to run this deal with one, 35 or 37-car, 50-lap feature instead of 2, 25-car, 25-lap features, we'd be there all night BUT here's what the paydown would look like when you combine both features and the points payout:

-- 57 or less cars: 2500-1600-1200-900-700 then 6th through 15th would get $500 & 16th-35th: $250
-- 58 or more cars: same for top five with 6th through 13th getting $500 and 14th-37th: $250

Of course doing it our way, it will most likely spread that top five pay around some instead of being all up top like that. Same $16,900 total purse either way though. Now all of this would be a bargain at the gate entry fee of just $75 but if you ENTER NOW (postmarked by April 25th or see me with a check made payable to Fast Trax Speedway at the USMTS show at Champion Park THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, April 25th) then THE ENTRY FEE IS JUST $25!!! An entry blank will follow this book...

Clear as mud, right? Well let's get on to some of the stuff which should make this a quick, ENJOYABLE night then.

-- 3 - and ONLY THREE - classes will be racing. Modifieds, Late Models and Limited Modifieds (full-framed SIMS/So. Sport Mod type). Late Models have one 25-lap feature, Limited Modifieds have one 20-lap feature.

-- Track owner Billy Bagwell and staff do an excellent job of track prep! The track is usually wide and racy and this will be the only show at Fast Trax that weekend so we get a "fresh" track if you will. Just 3 classes will help "keep the track" too.

-- This is a Sunday show but there is no use (in my opinion) to ever running an afternoon show this far south this time of year. Too dusty, too one-lane. We'll start later and move FAST! Draw ends at 5. Driver's meeting at 5. Hot laps right after meeting. First heat at 6PM SHARP!

-- The crew from USMTS will flag, score & track steward the entire show. They are a professional bunch that run about 80 shows a year. They are very good at officiating, scoring and moving these shows along FAST! There are from Iowa and claim that if their shows last more than 4 hours, they risk getting lynched. With the planned format and no unplanned stuff (rain, acts of God, power failures, injuries, etc.) getting in the way. I think we can get done by 9:30, 10 at the latest. No kidding...

-- In fact, this would be a great time to come and test for the USMTS Southern Series show at Fast Trax on Saturday night, June 7th. Or just get used to how USMTS runs a show as they'll have about 20 more in the south this year (including SPEEDWEEK! -- Tri-State-I-30-Ark-La-Tex-Monticello-Fast Trax, June 3rd-7th) and the way it's started out last year and this, I predict we'll see many more USMTS events around here in the years ahead.
