updated April 6 5:15 p.m.)
12 year old Harli White was seriously burned tonight (April 5, 2008) during the ASCS2 event at I-44 Speedway. Harli is from Lindsey, Oklahoma and is the daughter of Charlie and Michelle White.

Donna Harris with ASCS/ASCS2 talked to Harli's mother (Michelle) this afternoon (April 6). Harli has been moved to a burn center in Galveston, Texas. Harli is in very good spirits and has been very touched by the outpouring of prayers, kind thoughts and donations. The family especially wants to thank Donnie Ray Crawford and Jerrod Wilson for their efforts, and plans to call each of them personally.

Michelle provided a little background information on Harli that the family wanted to share with the racing community. Harli is a very competitive, naturally gifted, young woman. In addition to racing, she is a competitive softball catcher and cheerleader. While fairly new to racing, she has been coached by Gary Wright and Jim Woods.

Her current treatment plan consists of the following. Skin graft surgery was performed today. In 3 days, the bandages will be removed and on the 5th day they will have her walking. This cycle will be repeated for the next 5 weeks at a minimum.

Harli will be 13 years old on April 14th. The family and Harli welcomes your cards and letters at the following address:

Harli White
P O Box 158
Lindsay, OK 73052
Harli and her family asks for your continued prayers. They have felt the presence of everyone's prayers, and it has helped to ease their burden.

My heart goes out to this little girl and her family. Our prayers go out to Harli White and her family and friends. I know the entire racing community is extremely upset over this and will do whatever we can do to help. I know it will be a long road for her. A thank you for Donnie Crawford and Jerod Wilson for help saving her life. I know especially when it comes to a child, people don't hesitate about putting that child first. Please keep us posted about Harli's progress.

Sincerely,

Tammy Schnorr and Family

Just wondering.... would it be possible to organize some kind of fundraiser for this weekend at sfs??? after the races were cancelled saturday night several drivers went through the pits passing helmets around and we collected a couple thousand dollars in about a 15 minute span. i know several times in the past drivers have gone through the stands at sfs passing helmets to raise money for good causes. could something like this be done?????

My family would like to express our symphathy to the White family and our prayers are with them.

I think it is unfortunate that most safety rules have to wait for a tragedy to occur before rules are implemented. The NASCAR COT car came about because of a tragic death of one of their stars.

Here is what I believe should happen. First of all, no open wheel car mini sprint, midget or sprint car should be allowed on the track, without a bladder in the tail tank. No exceptions!!!

Second, no driver should be allowed in any race car with a driving suit that is less than a three layer suit. There is always a lot of drivers at the race track with single layer suits. This should not be allowed.

In addition, nomex underwear, including socks, should be required. A nomex head sock or a helmet with a nomex lining should be required. Driving gloves should also have the same fire rating. All of this is important to give the driver as much time as possible before they suffer severe burns.

The open wheel classes at SFS should require the driver to have either a HANS or Hutchins device.

Finally, if a race track is going to run cars, which allow methanol as fuel, they should have equipment that will put out a methanol fire. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!

There should also be personnel at the race track who know how to use the fire equipment. Preferably, trained fire fighters.

Fire is the most scary thing imaginable in any race car.

My main point is we should not have to wait on another tragedy to occur before we change the rules. There is a lot of good safety equipment available and everyone should be using it. The promoters should require all of the safety equipment and not leave it up to the drivers. Most drivers do not think it is necessary until they get hurt in some way.

Keep praying for the White family and hopefully everything will turn out for the best.

These cars are getting about 9 or 10 laps per gallon, the most they should have are 5 gallon cells. That would be a good idea.

Just because you have 10 gal. or a 20 gal. fuel cell does not mean you have to top it off before each race.

Someone pointed out the idea of running smaller fuel cells. How rediculous is that. If you are in a 8 lap heat race and only need 2 gal. of fuel, and you have a 20 gal. fuel cell why in the world would you want to fill it to the max. (SAFETY-SAFETY-SAFETY) I think or hope that we all know that.

As everyone knows fuel adds weight which reduces speed.

Punctuation is such a lovely thing! Especially when it comes to communication. Smile Periods (.) and commas (,) are so helpful in sentences. Not to mention EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!

( Proper grammer is nice, too. Ain't it?)

Please pray for the young girl burned in the accident at I-44 Speedway. I believe her name is Hailey White. She sustained very bad burns to her face, neck, and legs when her minisprint flipped and caught fire. It was a terrible situation. Please pray for her and her family.

My Thoughts and prayers go out to this little girl and her family.
