Looking through the rookie list for Tuesday's racing, the name Eddie Martin from Ada, Oklahoma jumps out at any self respecting Modified fan and it is that Eddie Martin from Stillwell. His midget owner is from Ada. As a "rookie," Eddie must finish top 15 in Tuesday's A to advance to one of the three qualifying nights or start deep in the alphabet soup on Saturday.
Wednesday is Wheatland's Randy Timms's shot to qualify. Timms made his Chili Bowl debut last year.
On Friday, Chad Wheeler from Muskogee takes his turn.
Impossible for a Modified racer to win the Chili Bowl you say? Well, it won't happen their first time out but last year's winner was Tim McCreadie -- that's right, a Late Model dude! So never say never.
Don't worry Texans, you got a few guys to pull for too such as Temple's Paul White on Wednesday, Southern States Midget champion Aaron Kirk, Sunnyvale's Sam Hafertepe, Jr. and Amarillo's Conner Pullen on Thursday and some kid from Houston named AJ Foyt IV on Friday.

For those that dont know Paul White won the USAC sprint car( I think) championship about 2 to 3 years ago. So he knows his way around a non-winged car.

in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he
stands at times of challenge and controversy."

Close catpuppy, it was the USAC Silver Crown championship and I think it was 2003 if memory serves me correctly.

Paul is an open wheel guy (Silver Crown, Sprints, Winged Modifieds in the day) who also has lots of seat time in a mod. Being from Temple, Texas and not moving out means you pretty much have to run Modifieds if you want to run dirt and don't have a full time Sprint owner/sponsor that travels.
I pull for my modified racers but I really think this is the year a local guy shocks the Chili Bowl crowd. I was real impressed with Mike Goodman's performace last year and a lot of folks including me are on the Brady Bacon bandwagon but there's also OKC's Trey Robb getting his second Chili Bowl start as well.
But I also like the chances of yet another Broken Arrow, Oklahoma racer -- Kevin Bayer.
What's in the water in Broken Arrow?
