On the video RJ, Shaffer looked like he came up and bumped Layton thus spinning.

Layton was packed against the wall, looked like a "racing deal", can't expect either driver to give much in a 30 lap sprint

LOL at a spin being termed "Laytonized." Title of the thread is very inaccurate. The end result of being "Laytonized" is usually a junked car or a trip over the guardrail. See Hodnett, Greg.

Yeah that was definitely his own fault. Layton had the momentum and was already coming up to the outside and Shaffer moved up to block a little too late and Layton's left rear caught his right front.

Haha @ Laytonized. People around here used to call Chad "the wrecking ball". That was back in his URC days.

He has since really cleaned up his ways, and turned into a pretty damn good sprint car driver.

The problem with Chad is that he burned waaaaayyyyyyy too many bridges before he became a good driver. I used to go out to Central PA quite a bit several years back and Chad was definitely out of control back then. He was sort of like "Checker or Wrecker" without the checker part back then. He punted a good friend of mine at the Grove and destroyed his car. Afterwards, some of the regulars at the Grove told my buddy, "You have just been Laytonized!" That was the first time I have ever heard the term. The very next week Chad punted Keith Kauffman, and a couple of the drivers told my buddy, "See, he is an equal opportunity punter!" LoL!

All kidding aside, Chad has developed into a top level shoe in the Central PA area and it is good to see him with a quality ride. Hopefully they will have a successful year.

Shaffer tried to "Laytonize" Layton, which didn't work out too well for him, as expected...lol. "Don't mess with the bull or you'll get the horns" is another phrase that also comes to mind...lol.

i was there on opening day at the Grove when the term "Laytonized" was coined, several years back. last lap of a day race, Layton drove thru 3-4 in an out of control manner, windshield wiping the entire width of the track, pushing Cris Eash up to the wall with total wreckless abandon. good thing Cris is a quality veteran driver as he did mange to save the car.

in the strict sense of definition...the "laytonizing" car must begin the move on the bottom and end the move with little or no room for the other car at the extreme outside.

i am tickeld to see the term appear in descriptions from parts unknown, internet radio interview and official print accounts of event...but it should be noted Layton is not the only driver who has made moves like this and every move that Layton makes in NOT a "laytonization" in the true sense of the term.

I agree with your definition of getting "laytonized". When he destroyed my friend's car it was a stupid, out of control slide job that he had NO CHANCE of pulling off and just stuffed my buddy's car right into the guardrail. Something that Chad has done many times early in his career, but in the past couple years I haven't seen or heard of that happening much anymore. He seems to have developed into a pretty consistent driver. Good luck to the #25 team!

He is a former sprint car driver named Jimmy Weller. He doesn't race sprints anymore after his terrible crash in a USAC race down at Charlotte several years ago. He almost lost his life in that crash (broke his neck & had a severe brain injury), but he has made a complete comeback and now races late models on asphalt.

He was on the fast track to the World of Outlaws & possibly beyond as he had good money & a good team behind him. He was supposed to run the All Stars the year after the crash and then the WoO tour the year after that. He was in tight with J&J chassis and Garrett Racing Engines and had won several A-mains his rookie year in 410's run upfront at several All Star shows as well.

It was a very tough crash that affected his entire career down at Charlotte, but he is making the most of his career by switching to the asphalt late models and continuing his drive to move on to another level. It is my understanding that he was prohibited from ever driving sprint cars from his surgeon and that he is only supposed to drive cars that have a slim chance of flipping because of his former neck injury. Hopefully things work out for Jimmy.

BTW, you may have remembered him running the daytime shows at the Grove several years back in a red, black, and yellow number 23. I think his best finish that year was a 9th (possibly a 6th). He was all about running with the best competition that he could so he could continue to better himself.

Oh, ok. I am familiar with Jimmy Weller and his accident at Charlotte. I didn't even realize he was back racing. Smile I was thinking of central PA teams and trying to figure out who you were talking about that had a car destroyed by Layton.. LOL I grew up as a huge DIRT Modified fan and I can remember Jimmy's father, Jim, coming to Hagerstown early in the year and late in the year for the Octoberfest with his No. 31.

Outlaws seem to be having a tough time keeping the Posse behind them. Last night Shaffer tries to crowd Layton and it backfires... Tonight McCarl crowds Mark Smith and takes them both out flipping Smith down the front stretch... Outlaws = Overrated.

Well, the Outlaws are definitely not overrated, but I see your point. They act as though everyone should let them slide up and give them the spot....(tim shaffer didn't get "Laytonized", he learned not to run over Layton)
