So, I am planning now....for August...haha. I had such a good time last year that I want to go back.

What's the best strategy to book hotels?

It's funny, online they say they are booked...but when you call they have available rooms...hmmm

Anyone have any opinions for booking (best city), traveling, parking (for race nights) etc, etc, or whatever else any of you have learned from your past trips??

Thanks!

Wonder if he needs a house sitter for the place? I will be moving back to Knoxville here in a few weeks and I am still in the process of finding a place to rent. not really much for living with the folks.

Stay at one of the hotels in Pella. It is a 20 minute drive to the track and there are lots of things to do. I always park on one of the side streets behind the backstretch.

I've stayed in Newton for the last 10 years. There are about 6-7 bigger hotels, a couple of smaller ones and plenty of resturants. Newton is about 25 miles straight north of Knoxville. Just take Hwy 14 and go north, it's a nice drive. When i first started looking for rooms, i just started calling to see what was avaliable. For race parking, I've parked in the Pamida lot, just on the other side of Pizza Hut. A good spot and 1/2 block from the track. Plus there are always lots of haulers parked on the frontage road there, so visiting with drivers and crew is close by. For me this works out very good. As I just head East on I-80 Sunday morning. Depending on what direction are coming from or going to after could weigh on your choice. Just look on a map, pick some cities in that direction from Knoxville and make a couple of phone calls. If you you'd like any info about Newton, please let me know. I'd ne happy to give you any assistance i can. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Adios joe

Huh, you know my mom? I am not moving in with my mom. I am beyond the needing to live with my parents factor.

We go from Oklahoma to Iowa every year for the 360 Nationals. Which if you haven't been to is a must. Racing just as good as 410 nationals, but I imagine the atmosphere is a bit different.

We stay in Pella every year and anytime within the next few months you should be able to book rooms there. We stay at AmeriHost Inn & Suites in Pella and last year they still had vacancy during the 410 Nationals. I imagine it's because they do not have a website......or one I could find anyway. Pella is by far the prettiest town in the region if not all of Iowa and I would say for me it is only second to Ouray, Colorado. Nice little 10 minute driver from Pella to the track that takes you through very nice scenery around Lake Red Rock. I'm sure we will stay there again for the 360 Nationals and Brodix ToC in 2007. The Palmida Parking lto is where we also always parked but when it is full we would park slightly southeast of there by some campers. I'd go with the palmida parking lot whenever you can which means gettin there somewhat early.

Jackhole....I didn't even know you lived in Iowa let alone Knoxville. We'll have to meet up next year for the 360 Nationals.......maybe even a grudge race at Slideways. Find a few more Hosers and it could be a Hoser Grudge Race. And then you can show us Okies the Knoxville hotspots.....I know a few in Pella, but not Knoxville.

Yeah, born and raised in Knoxville, class of '01. Might be easy for everyone to park at Pamida this year. They closed the doors on the place a few months ago.

One of my best friends and College roommate is from Osky so i know that town pretty well too. When those 'things to do' post came up, I got alot of thank yous from people for giving ideas. For once people liked me on here. However, as far as getting hotel rooms and stuff I would not know about cause I never have had to. I always find some friends house or my own to go pass out at.

We always stay in West Des Moines. It is an hour from the track but our hotel is in the same parking lot as the Jordan Creek Mall(brand new). Lots of restaraunts, movies and stuff to do during the day.

There is Hilton, and a Residence Inn there. Both new hotels.

Bring your golf clubs...

If you're planning this early, the best thing to do is contact the chamber of commerce and try to get placed with a family in Knoxville. It's minimal driving and travel to and from the track and staying with a host family can't be beat. There are plenty of people who open there homes to Nationals visitors. I stayed in a hotel once and will never do it again as long as my host family will keep having me.

The AmeriHost is booked for the 410 Nationals I called them today...

However I did find a room at the Super 8 in Osky on 17th street...$89, $81 with AAA discount.

So, I am good to go! Thanks to everyone for your help!
