Sprint cars often pull wheelstands coming out of turns, especially wingless....
I never watched sprint cars until 2010, but was a drag racing fan back in the 1960s, when "wheelies" were common...
My question is, have sprint cars been doing this all along, back in the "good ole days"?
I know it doesn't help, but its cool to see....

I've been going to dirt sprint car racing since 1968 and they have been poppin' wheelies as long as I can remember.
Back in the days of the spring front (leaf spring) the left front tire might not touch the track all the way around (if it was a short and flat track). Of course there were no wings then either. How far the technology has progressed.

The short answer is no. Pre-mid 80's sprint cars did not pull wheelies like you see today. Lifting the left front in the corners is not a wheelie. When the engines got lighter, I would estimate mid 80's, it began to happen on 1/4 miles. I didn't see it on a half mile until early 90's. I remember that one vividly at Terre Haute.

Probably the first wheelies that I saw were in around 1964 when Chuck Amati, the One Arm Bandit, was driving a car powered by a 427 Ford engine with three four-barrel carburetors at the Arena Park Speedway in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. When he got on the throttle coming out of a turn, the entire front of the car would leave the ground, not just the left front. It was a complete wheelie. .

That is what Chuck told me some years ago. I did not question him on this. I know that Ford made a tri-power manifold for three two-barrel carbs and I have seen one of them on a 427 in a Galaxie at a car show. Also, there is the dual quad for two four-barrels. It may actually have been one of these. They did not allow fuel injection at that track until a few years later. I may check with Chuck's grandson on this, but he would have been very young at that time.

I googled it (3 fours, not Chuck) & it seems to be mystery/controversy. Somebody may have tried it at one point in time, but if so, its rare & never caught on

Google doesn't record every historical event or action. If it's not on google it could still be true.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!
