I watched several of the races and the locals struggled to get into the top ten against the USAC regulars that towed west.. CRA Champ Gardner was pretty much a non factor in most of the races.

The days are gone where the locals could challenge the National guys. The ones who could are all retired now. Tony Jones, Cory Kruseman, Mike Spencer, Rip Williams, Mike Kirby, Richard Griffin, et. al. Even the second tier guys were good enough to run well back then. Gardner is on the downside of his career in my opinion; he's been at it for a long time now.

Yes Gardner is pushing 50 now. It's time for some young guns to step it up out there. Are there any or do they just move to Indiana when they turn 15?

I found it very concerning that the cameras view of the people in the grandstands was way down from previous years. It appeared that less than 1,000 people were there. Sad that what was such a premier event has lost its fan base.

You're right about the traffic. It's been 20 years ago that I was at the track, driving from San Bernardino, only 25 miles and took over an hour. I can only imagine it's much worse now. After listening to the enterview with the promotor a few weeks back, it's my opinion that because of the traffic around LA, fans are staying home and watching on flo-racing. He stated he only received $1,000 his part for the live streaming. It appears to me that flo-racing needs to up the payout substantually or the promoter needs to cancel their agreement.

If you want a USAC race, you have no choice but for it to be on flo. Same with Lucas Lates, All Stars. WoO Sprint and WoO Lates races Dirtvision, track has no choice if they want those races. I can see subscriptions going up in the next couple of years as the tracks are getting more and more vocal about getting more of a cut. I wouldn't be mad if they did raise the prices, they are an absolute steal right now to the best of the best Winged 410s, Late Models and the 3 USAC divisions between the 2 services. Throw in all of the non-sanctioned Knoxville, Attica and Grove races on Dirtvision also and they both are way underpriced for what you get.

Yep, that's just the speed I averaged... 3 hrs. to go 75 miles from LAX, & I was cheating, going in the HOV lane when traffic came to a dead halt. When I found out it was $400 fine if you got caught, I thanked my lucky stars. If I ever go again I'm flying into that closer airport (fergit the name...maybe Ontario?)
I was so stressed out in that traffic, kept wondering why anyone would live there... but obviously MILLIONS do...
I was planning to visit my cousin, but called her after the first nite & said driving was too stressful.... fortunately Sat. or Sunday morning I discovered a route thru Cleveland (?) State Park to her place in San Juan de Capistrano, mellow traffic, pretty scenery.
One of these days I wanna hit all those Midget races that are happening soon...

For my last couple of trips out to Perris, I have been flying to John Wayne (Orange County). A bit further than Ontario, but I can get there not stop from Houston. No direct flights with United to Ontario, and that layover in Denver is a pain. Not bad drive, but yeah, some slowdowns, but nothing like being in LA, though.
