I know it's not sprint car related but was curious how some here view this move. To me it takes alot of guts to rail it in like that and hope for the best. I see it has stirred up alot of controversy which surprised me and i don't video game so I never heard of this until now. What's everybody's thoughts, fair move or dirty move?

1:1000 chance it worked and lucky for him it worked. As he said if it had caught the gate entrance it would have worked out very different. If part of the safer collapsed and grabbed the car or would have worked out different. If the wall bounced him alittle and he bounced back into the wall it would have worked out different. IMO he got lucky. It was awesome to watch, kinda like a watching a kamakazi pilot speed toward you. You admire the determination and dedication but you also have to sit back and say "dude, the sun will rise in the east tomorrow morning".

Didn't Richard Petty drive close to or on the wall at some tracks in the old days with great success?

I feel the track prep guy should be fired because that track is so horrible that THAT is the fast way around.

I'll never go to another race there until they get rid of the track prep guy.

if Ross Chastain stops going to Martinsville then they are in trouble because he is the SHOW at Martinsville.  FACTS.

Watching a race a Martinsville is like watching paint dry or grass grow or watching one at the Port....same difference since they are both pavement tracks!

LOL!  The thing is you know I am right.  Macri is the show at the Port o Potty and the track crew at the Port o potty is the worst I have ever seen in the past few years.    They are the FACTS!

The fears that this becomes the new norm are unfounded. How often will an owner be willing to trash a car for a win? Nascar should not try to outlaw that move. High risk, high reward. It will be interesting to see if the 1 finishes the race Sunday the way he has raced this year. It somewhat reminded me of watching Larson, Rico and BC drive midgets at Tri City.

Correct.  It simply won't work at most tracks as the corner speed between the top and bottom groove isn't that different.  That and if the corner is much longer, the driver will run out of car before he gets to the finish line.

NASCAR will outlaw this kind of move.  Can you imagine the next race at Martinsville?  On the last lap the first place driver will have to pull the same move just to stay in first place.  In fact all the cars on the lead lap will do it too.  This would never happen even in a video game!  I'll stick to dirt tracks where skill is more involved.  (although it was a brilliant move by Ross but I don't think we'll see it again.)

The next time the 11 will be closer to the wall and it will be impossible to do what the 1 did.

I don't think nascar needs a rule against wall riding unless you start seeing this happen more often. It's an extreme move with higher risk of crashing than what we saw Chastain do.

I will say nascar probably loved it. That move has probably been watched by more people than the actual race itself, or any of their races the past 2 years. I guarantee they show this dozens of times at the finale.

Yea that last corner will be on every high light reel nascrap can get it on.  Weld some steel up in that RF and let them ride that wall. I saw the you tube replays, it was a ballsee type move,  once the fans realized what took place they were going nuts.

i was surprised larson called it embarrassing.  he tried it himself at darlington.  maybe he was upset bell won and there are still some hurt feelings there.  it's hard for me to look at that move as anything other than amazing.  i thought everyone loved the "win or wreck trying" mentality.  all of a sudden we don't because ross chastain did it and he's not one of the cool kids driving for hendrick?

what ty gibbs did saturday was embarrasing.  comparing himself to jesus was worse.  he's next in line to help ruin nascar by keeping their supply of unlikeable drivers stocked up.

The highlight of a somewhat boring race. We have seen many sprint car rim riders that ride the berm inches from the fence but sometimes it bites them and the wall isnt kind to open wheel cars. Ty and Ross were the face of NASCAR this week .Ty in a bad way and Ross in a risky but chance to place and Bell won the real prize and not many noticed. Changing gears the WOO race will be who is consistant and hope for no motor or driveline problems so the best team and driver win.NASCAR races around the bottom arent much to watch.
