Wolfgang when driving for Bob Trostle, was drooling over the hot Gaerte engine Carl Kinser was using and wanted Trostle to buy one for their 1976 sprint cars.  He said no, and they decided, instead of buying more HP, put the car on a diet, cutting 500 pounds off his 1976 sprint car.   Weight sure showed its power at Bristol. That first lightweight sprint car was the fastest in the country until other builders started doing likewise.  Anywho,  David Gravel rounded the track at 138+ mph while Alex Bowman driving the Hendrick # 48 Cup Car could muster only 89+ mph( in practice).  Had to look at those numbers 2 or 3 times, hard to believe the difference between a 1400 pound sprint car and and a 3500 pound Cup Car.  Of course there was also a 200+ HP difference between the two cars.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

1425 now. If the cars today were able to have the weight, wing, and tire rules of 2000 bristol you would have seen laps in the 12 second bracket.

This is comparing apples to ground beef and is stupid. It should be noted that NASCAR qualifies in the mid 14 second bracket when on the concrete at Bristol, because you know those cars are built for pavement and not dirt. Also, the track for the nascars was prepped to be hard and slick from the get go (sprint cars similar but not nearly as extreme). Also, the nascars ran faster laps in the ran than in practice.

I don't understand why people are surprised at the the speed difference between NASCAR and sprint cars?  How would they even be close?  They never will be close, NASCAR's never said they were the fastest circuit around.  If speed's what's important to you guys, you should check out drag racing.
