Hey Everyone!

I know Justin Zoch is too humble to reach out and post, so I'm going to do it for him. :-)

Justin along with Adam Cornell have created a new dirt track magazine! There will be a digital issue coming out in January. The focus will be short, hard hitting, captivating articles with dynamic photography. There will be a full digital media presence, with eight issues a year. Meaning, during the summer months it will be a monthly issue and just every other month during the off season. The first print edition will come out in April. It will encompass all things dirt track racing, from midgets, to sprints, to modifieds, late models, you name it!

Give them a follow on facebook or subscribe online;

Happy New Year!

Does this mean that Dirt Monthy Magazine, which Justin was affiliated with, is officially out of business?

Yes, unfortunately, with stressors from the pandemic and other contributing issues, the owners of Three Wide Media decided to close their doors, thus taking Dirt Monthly with them. But, this void allowed for Justin and Adam to collaborate and create a new unique media platform for dirt track fans to enjoy.

Hard copy magazines dealing with cars or racing are a dying breed I hate to say.  The Hot Rod empire formerly owned by TEN Media was bought by Discovery and is now 3 magazines from about 12.  The mast head there is getting very thin and most of their focus is on online content.  Not saying it is bad, just that's how it is today.  Feature stories seem to be in less depth, with more "short" stories with 10 pictures.

I was bummed when Dirt Monthly went all digital.  I understand it, just not thrilled with it.  It was a great "I'll be in the library" magazine.  Guess I'll have to take my tablet in with me now......

You don't have to take your tablet with you yet! Dirt Empire will be a print magazine, there are some of us out here that are still nostalgic for getting to lay our hands on the articles and pictures. There will still be some extended features, long q an a's, and the same type of in depth content. We aren't trying to reinvent the wheel, because as writers, we realize the greatness in print. Smile

Thanks for the information. I understand these are difficult times but it would have been nice for Three Wide Media to notify their subscripers that they are closing shop and walking away with our monies in their pockets!

The freelancers relate to this as well. Communication, no matter the outcome of any situation, is needed. Luckily, they have zero involvment in the creation or running of Dirt Empire, and you will always always receive communication and answers to any questions you may have. The subscribers are not alone in their frustration, we were all left unknowing.

As a contributing writer for Dirt Monthly (which means I was freelance and not on their payroll unless I submitted an article for publication), none of us knew what was going on. To be honest, the owners of Three Wide Media/Dirt Monthly have still not reached out to any of the freelance contributers and given any information or communication.

But, that's not what I started this thread about. While I know there is turmoil with Dirt Monthly, I didn't start this thread to discuss that. I started to share good news and happiness about something incredible and reliable coming to fill the void! That's something we can all use going into 2021! Smile

I feel the exact same way....I was an advid supporter of Three Wide Media and their publications over the years. I was OK when they consolidated their three magazines into one (Dirt Monthly) amd I know the death of a key employee contributed to their problems....That being said, some sort of communmication from the Publishers should have been warranted to let their loyal subscribers know what is going on. I do not even care about losing my subscription money. I am old school and still enjoy subscribing and reading several racing periodicals including Sprint Car & Midget, Speed Sport and Area Auto Racing News. I am willing to give Dirt Empire a chance and will probably subscribe as long as it is an actual magazine and not just on line.. Best of luck Justin!!!!!

Well stated bgtexpress I dont care to much about the monies either and if I did I would be SOL! Someone walked away with all the subscription money paid and at least they could leave you know they closed the doors but thats the world we live in today people dont give a crap in more ways than one!

So because of what Justin & Adam are trying to accomplish, and how they were also victims of Three Wide Media, I just subscibed to a one year subscribtion to the new Dirt Empire magazine. I figured I have always enjoyed Justin's work at Flat Out and am willing to support him for his entrepenural spirt. Hopefully their passion for our sport is rewarded with a sucessful product.

Hey guys!

Sorry, the new year kind of got away with me and I forgot to get back to this and respond!! Yes, unfortunately, everyone that worked with Three Wide Media ended up being victims and falling to the same issues the subscribers did - Adam, Justin, and all of the freelancers. We're all very hurt, because we all cared passionately about the success of the magazine. Some sort of communication from the owners would be nice, even it was simply an apology.

I too was a big fan of Flat Out, and miss it greatly. Open Wheel was what made me want to write.

The magazine will both be print and online, so for those of us who like to hold it in our hands and enjoy the print world, we'll be very satifisfied.

There are great things coming from them! I recently wrapped up a Q&A with Zan Haudenschild, I have a piece on James Broty from Minnesota in the sample issue coming here in January. We have a piece on the Rumley car and their adventure with Kyle Larson coming in the future as well. We're all working diligently and passionately toward producing something that will be able to be here for the long term.
