One of the best ever. I remember Scott was one of the few who could handle Steve on his team and talk to him and reel him in. Reeling in one of the most competitive atletes ever is not an easy thing to do.
Also remember Steve continuously bumming cigarettes from Scott, hitting them a couple of times and throwing it out. With Steve pacing back and forth trying to figure out what to do to the car.
For some reason I always paid attention to Scott and Steve in the pitts. I guess you want to watch the best do what they do.
Really not important, but does anyone know the cause of death? Have not seen.

It's so unfortunate at the age of 62 he is gone. He was dedicated to steve throughout his career. RIP

It's amazing how a quick 5 second encounter can shape your feelings for someone who you don't really know. For example, I have always been an "Anybody but Schatz" guy. I don't know why----other than it seemed like the "in" thing for 15 years.  Anyways, I had two very brief encounters with Schatz at Knoxville over the span of the last 3 or 4 years. Both of them at Caseys in Knoxville. Both times he was very polite, made eye contact, said hi, and the last time he opened the door as we were both walking in and said with a smile "after you sir." Nothing major, but it really changed my perspective on him as a person. He seems so pissy and arrogant sometimes on TV when he loses------but he's a competitor. As a person, he treated me like he was just another person. So do I still playfully boo him when he is introduced over the PA? Sure, all in fun. Do I like seeing him win? Not really. But, do I respect him as a driver? Only a fool wouldn't. And now, because of those 2 encounters away from competition, I respect him more as a person as well.

He really is the most hated "nice guy on the track" ever. Good point
