Does anyone else think that Justin doesn't have near the control Doug had at keeping the drivers honeat on the starts? Seems like a lot of bad starts are let go with him on the stand.

I think Justin is just as bad as his dad was at controlling the starts.

You guys probably need to throw a little slack here. Throw too many yellows and people say I came to watch racing and not the flag man show. Bottom line is it's clear what the rules are and every one is playing games. Speed up at first line and go at the second. To me the start "zone" is stupid and causes more games. One line and if someone isn't in the right row when the leaders hit the line well we call it back. Pole setter sets the pace to the line (within reason). If your second and you don't keep up or if you push the leader to the line you are in the wrong. These aren't the actual rules but more so how I see it best.

I am not sure that is Justin's call to make.    I thought that came from the race director up in the tower.   Someone that knows for sure please correct  me if I am wrong.

Most likely Doug had greater input on those decisions,  especially many years ago when he started.....but I was under the impression that it was a tower call now.

WoO has a man in the tower and one inside turn 4. They make the calls on the starts.

They should start the race at the start/finish line.

The more the race officials try to "control" the start the worse it is.  If the field is 2x2, the leaders are even at the center of 3 and 4, and the leader fires first, that should be all the management you need. Racing did fine for decades with these rules and the guy on the stand making the calls.

Do you have any idea how dangerous it would be to have 24 cars enter 1 at half speed? Very bad idea.

I liked it when they started in turn 3. Are the cars supposed to be 2X2 nose to tail or is it acceptable for a driver in the outside row to swing out to the cushion off of turn 4 to get a better run? I see that quite a bit.

I heard that at the one and only races the new Knoxville Police Chief was one of the officials making the calls on the starts. Smile

The call for restarts comes from upstairs. The flagman has nothing to do with that call.

You can tell an ass... but, you can't tell 'em much

I'm old enough to remember the restarts on the back straightaway, and it wasn't bad either.

I don't care where they do the restart but I wish they'd use the damn cone and do a single file restart.

Enough expensive equipment gets trashed on the initial starts, we don't need double file Restarts.

I was told the official standing in turn 4 is the guy that starts the race. He goes green, green, green on the headset. If he does not the flagman still drops the green but he knows that is his signal to go yellow for a restart. The tower official can call off the start then they do it all over. Been that way for awhile now, with the speed of these cars on starts you have to time that yellow. Dropping it to early can really stack the field up and that could get ugly real fast.
