The 15 car looking rather mediocre  - even at Knoxville - even if stuff got in the way - even stuff getting in the way doesn't happen very often.

I had it all wrong - again, it's a pattern Smile. I figured by this time everyone would be scrambling for Ford Motors.......although denied, more expensive Ford Motors.

Well to be fair he was running ok, and was doing ok in points before getting taken out by someone else.  I know that getting slammed into the fence by another car is the motors fault tho.  That was sarcasm by the way.

Well, if that motor had been propelling his car faster, he would have been in front of the guy who took him out. wink

Oh Good Lord.....I thought when he finally had a Ford u der the hood and evenly spaced exhaust ports rather than just a Ford decal on the hood this tiresome banter would be over. I wasn't that what everyone was worked up about the last few seasons, a Ford decal on the hood and a Chevy under it?

Part of me is being silly, part of me is being sarcastic, and part of me is happy this isn't another Larson thread. Hoping tomorrow or Saturday there's a big thread about Jacob Allen taking a trophy.

Dad and I talked about it last night. We say if they didn't have faith in the motor it wouldn't be there. Idk if Donny slowed down necessarily but likely the other front runners have caught up. It's cut throat out there right now besides Larson. I think frustrations are high on a good amount of crews.

I agree wholeheartedly with your opinion. Throw Larson out of the equation and in the last three to four seasons look at how Sweet, Gravel and Schuchart have stepped up their games. Macedo is always a threat and Jacob Allen, although he hasn't won yet (its just around the corner) has come so far in the last couple years. Add that to the fact that Donny isn't getting any younger and without question he misses Ricky Warner. And yet......how many drivers in the country would give their left testicle to be Donny Schatz right now with a handful of wins and, before last nights misfortune he was in top two in points. Ya, he's not as dominant as a few years ago, but he sure ain't sucking hind tit neither.   But wait a second.....for the last ten years we've heard Donny this and Donny that, he's using traction control, no way he can be this dominant and not be cheating. Y'all (not you IADIRT, I'm talking the haters in general) beat the crap outta him when he was winning every other race, taking Nationals titles and Championships year after year like he was Steve Kinser or something and now, when others are winning and him not so much, ya beat the shit outta him again. Then Y'all go nuts for the last few years because he had a Ford decal on his car and a Chevy based engine under the hood, now he has a Ford decal AND a Ford based engine and its Still not good enough. Let me state, I'm not necessarily a huge Schatz fan, but I respect the hell outta him and what he's done and numbers don't lie, Kyle Larson will have to strap into a sprint car and dominate for more seasons than this one to equal what Schatz has done, and that's not to take anything away from what Larson has done this year.  The only thing more tiresome  in modern day sprint car bantering than bashing Donny Schatz is the debate of which is better....winged sprint cars or non wing, and that debate is easy, whether it's got a wing on it or not, if it's a sprint car it's f*#king awesome.

I'am NOT a Schatz fan although I should be, he's from Minot and now Fargo, only about 180 miles from me in Winnipeg..No one likes to see someone win all the time..Schatz IS A DRIVER..He doesn't have Rickey this year but there are many who wish they could be as successful as he is or was..He knows how to wheel a sprint car and a late model when he races one..He is far from being finished..I'am tired of seeing Larson win now..He takes chances and someday will wreck big time or wreck someone else..

I totally agree. Donny is a racer and what I've always been impressed with is that he is clean. I also agree on your thoughts on Larson. Yes he's exciting, I'd call it Controlled Recklessnes and seemingly 9 times out of 10 it works, but sometimes it doesn't. At the same time, I cannot be hypocritical to an earlier post i made on a different thread.....even the great ones cross the line at times and, if ya don't trash a car now and again, ya aren't pushing the limits hard enough. I too am ready for different faces...Gravel won tonight and I'm waiting for with baited breath for Jacob Allen to get his first.

Wrecking big time? You mean like Donnie did when he was young, but fully funded, duh, money no object, unlike Larson who earned his way up.   When Donnie had the fastest car, Knoxville Nationals, before he ever won it. Started on the pole,   took off for the start in the middle of 3 and 4, rolled the left rear going into turn 1, Doug didn't even wave the green he jumped the start so bad, and left the facility on a stretcher.  Wrecked big. That Donnie Shatz? Yeah, that Larson guy, he has alot to learn.......

I have never been and not likely to ever be a Shatz fan but I gained a lot of respect for him one night at Port Royal when he could have made contact with Ryan Smith to take a win and did not. I don't know about when he was younger but keep in mind that Larson is not a kid anymore. I see some sliders from him and a couple of other young guys that everyone thinks are great that they would not have pulled on a few of the older resently retired Pa. veterans. They would have been taught some manners. One of them told me once that he expected to be run hard but cleanly. He said there is a time when you can see a slider is not going to clear. All you have to do is turn left at the right time rather than lifting as they expect and you might both go for a ride today but he won't be doing that to you again any time soon.

Didn't he pretty much run the alphabet soup after the motor change?

Mechanical stuff happens. Think of all the years he didn't have DNF's or bad finishes caused by someone else.  That kinda stuff is going to happen to just about everyone at some time

From my count he had 3 engines between the rails over the weekend. Seems like someone is trying to reinvent the wheel. There must be a lot of potential financial gain in the long run to give up so much in the short run.

It's not my money or my business so they can do as they like. Just an observation and a thought.

no offense to fans of the blue oval - jus sayin:

Its deja vu all over again. Bob Fetter and, later but gets all the credit- Casey Luna, spent a lot of money on motors back in the day. The numbers I recall were about twice as much as the "Chevys".  And, not just 2X the cost of each motor  but also 2X the number of motors.

That said, a good motor/brand rivalry would be a good thing as long as it doesn't drive the costs any closer to Mars than they already are.

if you are saying donny didnt work his way up, you are nuts.  he had one of the best sprint cars in the country, and it was a FAMILY OWNED car....his family, by the way.  he had a tire come unbeaded on that start you're reffering to. wasnt running a bead lock on the inside.  mistake was never made again, by the way.  he is notorious for NOT tearing equipment up....that is waht happens when your family pays the bills on the car, you learn how hard you can drive, and how clean you have to drive.  probably can count on one hand how many times he has wrecked his stuff on his own, and not somebody else doing it.  Donny has reasons not to like him( he can be rather cold sholdered at times, and kinda blunt), but dont ever think that when he was young he had a more funded team than larson has had...not even close

I was surprised by Donny's struggles this weekend but he was able to race pretty well on Saturday night.  Back of the C to the B to 11th or 12th in the A isn't too shabby.  He has gone from "automatic" at Knoxville to "just" one of the top teams there.  I doubt we have heard the last of Mr Schatz at the Nationals!

Nailed it thank you sling shot. Started 24th after transfer from the B and still got the boos. What was really disapointing to me was the crash he was involved in with Sweet,Eliason and McFadden. I had fans in front of me that actually cheered he wrecked. One guy had I'm assuming was his 8-10 year old son with him and cheering that he crashed. Why would you cheer about drivers you may not like crash let alone teach his son that its ok because dad doesn't like Donny. We all have drivers we may like more than some of the others but how do you cheer for that?

It was great to see the 15 team architect a comeback like that on Saturday night.        My math says that based on the 30 lap results, if the feature were a 50 lap race he would have passed 8 more cars and finished in the top 5.

I only saw clean passes where he left plenty of room too.  He wasn't driving like he was late for the airport in the C-main or B-main.    Donnie does it without all the drama.

Another thing to appreciate about Donny Schatz is that he is a sprint car racer because he wants to be a sprint car racer.     He was never forced to be a sprint car racer because his NASCAR didn't worked out.

This posse fan has mad respect for most sprint car drivers especially Donnie Schatz.

If you only like 2 or 3 drivers you should automatically appreciate the other 20 or so simply because you couldn't watch your man drive without the others.
