I'm sure I'm opening myself up to great criticism but, could this event be held in another state that is open? I know it has tradition etc but fir one year when nothing is normal what about holding ut at Knoxville or.....

Isnt it better to race than postpone?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Fair point to an extent but there are probably a number of factors preventing this. One being legal ramifications as Eldora may have copyright to the name Kings Royal and such so even if another track could use the same format, purse, etc they probably could not use Kings Royal as the name.

Another reason is kind of a Kindergarten concept of respect and kindness. Tracks wouldn't want their races taken from another them and given to another track so they in turn shouldn't take other track's races.

Seating & Purse. Outside of Knoxville and maybe Jackson now, I do not think any track has the seating or resourses to really pull off that kind of crowd (if they get that kind of crowd that is) in order to pay the purse. A lot of tracks are happy to sale out and pay the $10,000 to the winner purse. Add the $175,000 to win purse and there probably isn't another track in the country that has the seating and camping capacity to bring in enough people to pay the purse even with the old $50,000 to win purse. Plus what brings a lot of people to that race is that it IS Eldora.

Finally Knoxville has the Knoxville Nationals to plan for and its not 100% that it will happen to its full extent this year. Adding another race on top of that with only a short period of time would be a tall order for them. Plus I do not think that it will be seated at full capacity at this point but I hope I am wrong on that account.

Hold the Knoxville Nationals anywhere but Knoxville and it ain't the Knoxville Nationals.   I'd bet most people wouldn't go anyway.   I know I wouldn't go.   I'm sure the same thing could be said about Eldora or Williams Grove too.    I understand the logic, but it just wouldn't be the same.

Run the Kings Royal at Willimas Grove, The National Open at Eldora, and the Knoxville Nationals at Kokomo.

Problem solved.

"Postponed" - Intriguing semantics: if this is a yearly event,  then isn't this year's King's Royal just plain cancelled?

If they are indeed postponing it, then that means it will be a year off in perpetuity - the 2020 will be in 2021, 2021 in 2022, ..........

And what happens if they have to "postpone" again? It could really get confusing.

Jus sayin

Smile

As for the postponing, I think that's just to mean that next year will be the 37th Royal, not that the 37th is cancelled and next year is the 38th.

Hopefully the WoO go to some other Ohio tracks that weekend that get neglected. Wayne County for one. Sharon would be great but given they have a 2 day all-star show the weekend before I doubt they'd be an option. Atomic, Fremont, Portsmouth.

I wonder if it would make sense to move the Silver Cup to a weekend now that they will have that weekend open. Always seemed dumb to have a big race on a Tuesday and now with the hole in the schedule they could do a 2 day deal.

Is it on the banks of Split Rock Creek?

How about adding a Woo Ohio Speedweek at Attica, Wayne County, Atomic, Sharon and Fremont with those KR dates since they can all race with full grandstands.

It is such a sad moment to hear that Eldora will not be crowning a new King this year.  As a sentimental type myself ... and growing older....  I find these rare moments mean more to me now.  In fact ... when the late models ran at Eldora without fans ...my response shook me.  My eyes so filled with tears...that I could not focus.  It was a spontaneous reaction as I had not thought upon it.  It was not done upon reflection ...it was instant.  I saw somewhere that someone had posted a picture with no fans up behind the flagman and a lone late model on the track ....an with the caption  “there is no words”  to describe it.  I am not sure who  posted that... but it was spot on.   Sometimes There is no words to capture what the heart and soul feels about some things.

But one thing is for Sure.... there is No replacement for Eldora!!! It would absolutely not be the same.  And I sincerely doubt that anyone else could run the program as well.  Eldora is close to perfect!  I wish that Earl had fulfilled his dream and built an asphalt Nascar track where the fans could have both.  Truthfully, I felt he picked Tony with his charm & connections to get the job done.  I would bet Earl beams with joy from the other side when the Nascar trucks take to the banks of “Eldora “!!!  Who would have thought such a thing possible?  Earl & Tony.  And we are blessed with a fun destination because of them.

On a side note of racing history.  Earl once bought a race track and then idled it to move certain race events to Eldora.  I would bet serious money he would balk at the idea of moving the Kings Royale anywhere!  And mr. Tony??? Well now he is a smart dealer... he might move it to a nascar owned track for an extra date on Eldora’s schedule in the future.  Televised events make way more money .... remember they laid  dirt down on Bristol years back.   And nascar is in serious need of re connecting with some  grass root race fans. It would never have the same magic ...and everyone would want the event to come home....so one would have to think about it as loaning money to the bank... and then it comes back to you with interest.  It might be an interesting format to include all nascar drivers with dirt root eligibility to connect current nascar fans ... maybe bring back some of the legends and crown a new King between them.  But this would not be the same without fans .  Sad but most True.  Maybe a little fun but way short of the magic  at Eldora.

Or we could just wait a year and move on cause we dont have a choice anyway cause this stuff about racing here and racing there really dont matter and human life does so we will race in a year maybe. If not we will race in 2022 when this is all over so heck with it
