Roaring Knob is running a sprint show on Sunday 5/24.  They have stated that they will have fire and emt on site, but the ambulance will only be on standby due to current state regulations.  Will they actually get any 410's to show?

If that is the case they should not race. A life is not worth running 1 race.

Stay away. The place unfortunately has gotten a bad reputation for a wide range of things. Most seemingly brought on by the promotor himself. Lincoln just announced there going back to racing, go there at least you no what your getting.

I can confirm there was an ambulance and fire unit there last night.. We raced out there.. But let me warn you.. The rocks on the track are BAD.. I saw one land in front of me The size of a softball.. No lies !! Heard them bouncing off the side of a hauler as well.. So if your going there to race or know someone going to make sure they have a heavy duty rock guard in place..

Anyone have a list of results?   I know Sye Lynch won.

What 410 drivers showed up and how did they finish?   Thanks

First, let me say that I was thankful to have a race to go to within a couple hours of home.  After that, well let's recap.  I only went to the Sunday evening show which included: 410 Sprints, 305 Sprints, 270cc Sprints, Legends Cars, and Emods.

  • At the ticket gate: the ticket person added up the cost and came up with $58 dollars for 1 Adult ($15) and 1 Senior ($13) and ($20) for a drive in veiwing spot....hmmm....had to correct that error.  From there it went further donwhill.
  • The ticket person instructed us to take any spot on the right side.  Within 30 minutes a season long subscriber appraoched about being in their spot.  A very Nice Gentlemen that allowed us to move over a little to a vacant spot.
  • Website stated drivers meeting at 5:30 with hot-laps at 6:00.  Pretty much on top of this, but hot-laps that take 1 hour and 45 minute?.  (Yes there was a sprint flip in turn 3 that took time to get the car off the gaurdrail/fence, but 1 hour and 45 minutes for hot-laps.....ridiculous)
  • Heats took forever. Yes there were 2 more sprint flips, but almost 3 hours for heat races and 2 410 sprint B mains (more on that later)....mostly caused by total lack of organization.  Have the cars lining up while the other heat is being run so you can get them out immediately.
  • In one of the sprint heats during a flip, a car next to the pit entrance in turn one had the tow truck driver push him to just into the pit area where a crew person changed the left front tire.  All during a red flag which had no crew members allowed on the track.  The car was then pushed back out into turn 4 and was then at the rear of the field.  (car was already at the tail before the red, but I thought a red flag means no entrance into the pit area well after the accident occurs)
  • 2 410 sprint B mains that started 6 cars each.  I believe they took 2 cars from each b main.  (was told there were 39 cars, with 3 flips and the possibility that others not taking the green.  Why not have everyone lined up for one B main and let them go with the top 4 transferring?  Pretty much how I've seen it happen in most every other sprint race I've seen.......and there have been MANY!)
  • 2 intermissions prior to the start of the features which started at about 10:40.  TWO....should not have been ONE!
  • Biggest kick I had was the announcer.  You have Bruce Ellis at the Grove Exclaming It's Showtime at WIlliams Grove, of course Johny Gibson with You wanted the Best, etc.....This guy stated in a monotone when the cars were coming out of 4 Here Dey Come for every race.

This is a track that I have been to one other time and it would take another coronavirus outbreack with everything else shut-down to go to again.  It is a shame, because the track has potential.  I love the hillside seating that allows for chairs as well as sitting in the back of my pickup for the evening.  The track, while not in the greatest shape, has potential, but is in need of some TLC.  As posted earlier, the driver said there were a lot of rocks.  I believe it would not take much to really make some significant improvements.  I noticed many billboards along the backstretch and not one had a sponsor.  This could really help the place a lot not only providing some money for the track, but also display a positive image of the local businesses showing an interest in the track.

Most of the problems are occuring in the organization of the program.  Maybe they are limited in track personell fo help for an evening show.  (WAY TOO MUCH TIME going from one race to the next.  Took a long time for the 3 sprint flips to be cleaned up.   Yes, driver care is important, but way too much time after the driver was out of the car and okay.  Lastly, NO INTERMISSION and certainly not TWO)  And for those that say why don't you promote.......Don't have the money, time or proximity to the track to get involved.  I am just hoping that the synopsis will help for the future of the track.  You had the only game in town (for that matter in the state) on Sunday and had a chance to shine.  Large car count, Very Good Crowd.  Wish it would have been different for everyone.

Interesting how the back stretch goes a little down-hill while the frontstretch goes a little up-hill.  The exact opposite of the old Challenger Speedway in Indiana, Pa.

No full results and I have no idea the total cars but scouring the internet found the top 5:

Sye Lynch, Tim Shaffer, Billy Dietrich, Chase Dietz, Cole Duncan

For a track I had never heard of until about 2 months ago people sure like to complain about this place.

Lpjazz covers a lot of the reasons why I guess.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents on Roaring Knob on Sunday.

It was my first 'live' race of the year, and I was very excited for it.  Had a quality field of 410s, and the pits were packed with the 5 divisions, including 62 sprint cars (35 410s, 27 305s).

I've been to Roaring Knob before, I've heard a lot of bad things from friends who run LMs, so I was well aware it was going to be a long night, but after our start to 2020, I was fine with it.  I live about an hour from the track, and only been there twice before.

Was there dis-organization from the track, yes, were the 2 intermissions too much, yes, did it take forever for clean-up of wrecks, yes.  The track did get VERY dusty on some of the longer green runs in the 410 feature.

The funny part was during the driver's meeting, the starter informed the drivers "The leader takes off when he wants in turns 3 & 4.  Once he takes off, I'll throw the green, and any passing can occur when that happens.  I like to keep things going, so I don't like to throw the yellow on restarts".  The looks on the drivers was funny.  What, no cone on the front stretch, how does that work?  lol  The restarts were definitely interesting all night long.  If a guy timed it right, there were a number of times drivers would get a really good restart!

There was a lot of talk here and on social media about safety concerns.  I felt the track handled it very well, as I posted their responses to it earlier in this thread.  They had an ambulance, EMS, fire crew & truck, so from my untrained eye, it was adequate .

But overall for me, the racing was decent, track was smooth and fast, and I was very happy I went.

Would I go to Roaring Knob again, I don’t know, would have to be a good reason or a 'bigger' show, not just a 'regular' show.  Like lpjazz said, the track has a lot of potential, it's in a great setting and a beautiful area with Ohiopyle and Youghiogheny River Lake  and tons of outdoor activites nearby, and the hillside seating with plenty of area for people to park their cars and watch the races from!  Just hope they improve on a few areas.  The track posted on Facebook appreciative of the support for the 2 shows, acknowledged their short-comings, and hope to improve in the future.

Note, I am not at all affiliated in any way with the track, just my 2 cents to it.

Thank you BillV  for helping  me out.

I need to say thank you for all your efforts doing your website.  I have your website bookmarked and  the tab always open.

I find it fascinating looking at how many races guys do and the money earned.  I know it personally but most racers lose a lot of money racing.   Also all the people who think that Kyle Larson can make big money racing a sprint car need to look at your site

BillV.    Larson could make decent money and a good living compared to the average American,  but no where close to Nascar $.
