Despite everthing that is going on right now in the world, tentatively I might be able to add a new track to my list this year. I will be in Chicago for work the Monday & Tuesday prior to the Outlaw dates on 7/2 & 7/3 at Cedar Lake. I'll have my son on the trip who loves trains as well as racing so I am thinking about maybe taking the Amtrak from Chicago to either St Paul or La Crosse then catching the races the next two days and check off a couple things on the adventure list for him. Train ride, Sprint Car race in another state. Seen videos of Cedar Lake in the past and it looks like a nice facility and good racing. We would be staying somewhere between St Paul and New Richmond.

Not sure what the car count will be as it looks like the IRA has a show on 7/3 but not having much knowledge of that organization, I wasn't sure if that would pull too many cars away from the Outlaw show?

Any local resturants that we should give a try?

Anything we should try at the track?

Anything we should try in town prior to the races? (parks, zoo's, museums, historical markers)

What time do races normally end at Cedar Lake or in Wisconsin? Might be able to leave with enough time to get back to Ohio and watch the All Star race at Fremont on the 4th. Possibly might go to Knoxville for their 4th show.

Thanks, trying to go some new tracks in different states the next few years as I have the opportunity to travel a little further now since my little one is a little bit older now. Doing the I-55 Iron Man through Nationals week later this year at least that is the plan

Google the location of Cedar Lake as it is MEAR New Richmond. I stay inHudson, WI and it’s a 25 minute drive. I highly recommend tubing the Apple River in New Richmond, especially if it’s a hot day.

Not sure how long you'll be there or how old your son is.  But if you're going to take the Amtrak to St. Paul, I just looked it up and you are only a block away from a light rail station.  From there you can get to a lot of places in the twin cities metro.  The Mall of America is cool to see once, you could easily spend a full day or two there.  Again not sure how old he is but there is a decent amusement park in the middle of it, Fly over America which is neat, Lego land, Crayola experience, all kinds of stuff for all ages and even though my kids have outgrown it, I always get a kick out of the Rain forrest cafe, its setup like you're in the jungle and there's a whole bunch of animatronix animals.  Not sure if that's a chain or not but I've only seen it in MOA.  They also have lots of traveling or temporary kind of things there, a couple years ago there was a traveling Mythbusters exhibit there.  Another thing that's kind of fun is the science museum, there's lots of interactive things for the kids but that's not in the MOA.  I know there's a lot more stuff up there but we usually go up there for 3-4 days usually, we hit up a Vikings game and usually hang around the mall the rest of the time.  The light rail is awesome for visitors, you can get to, well I guess any place, we've wanted to go lol.  However, for us anyway, it seems every time were up there it's a high of 10 below so it's nice because everything's inside.

Not sure how you plan to get to the track though.  I'm just going to give you a heads up on an experience we had.  A couple years ago my wife and I went to Vegas and for some reason the flight my wife picked had us landing in Minneapolis about 11:30 at night.  My sister lives up there so we left our vehicle at her place and she dropped us off, we figured we'd just uber back to her place once we got all our luggage.  She lives about 15 miles from the airport about 2 blocks off of 494 and the airport is right on 494, so it was a straight easy shot.  That uber ride would've cost us $100.  I only bring this up because we never thought about it and in my opinion, a signifigant amount of money.  Not sure what your plans are but renting a car might be cheaper than an uber?

If your into midgets 7/4 and 7/5 is Pepsi Nationals in Sun Prairie. Poweri/badger midgets and 360 sprints. Angell Park is a bucket list for many and this weekend would be a good time to visit. Your going to go right past. I believe Culumbus a town away has amtrack.

Cedar lake is a pretty neat place you should get a few IRA or Knoxville guys also. Thats hope we are all at a track somewhere by then.

Thanks for the suggestion. He is 4 so the science museum and the amusement park will probably be hits to him. I did notice the light rail when I was researching things as something that we could use for transportation. Only thing I was a little bit weary about is that currently it shows we would not get into St Paul until 11:30pm which normally wouldn't be a problem if I traveled alone, but given I'll probably be holding a sleeping child and carrying a bag. I may just take take the train to an earlier stop like La Crosse Wi and then drive up the next day to that area.

Will probably just rent a car as I have been bitten by the uber rates before as you stated above. Wish I could just take the rental car back to Ohio as I could probably get to the All Star race at Fremont in time but, that would add almost another $200 to the trip. But hey, first world problems. Might still try to go to Knoxville on the 4th depending on how we feel.

I live about 2 hours West of Chicago.  My son and I are heading to Hayward, WI for a fishing trip and we have a hotel room in New Richmond for Friday night the 3rd at the Amerivu Inn and Suites.  Our plan is to watch the Friday night show and head to our fishing cabin on Saturday morning.  Let me know if you do indeed do this trip.

I've never been on the light rail in St. Paul but I don't think I would be very comfortable taking the light rail at that time with a small child.  You guys will have fun at the mall.  I forgot to mention there's also underwater world in the basement of the mall, basically you walk through the bottom of a huge aquarium, I think half of it is salt water and half is fresh water, They've got all kinds of fish in there including sharks.  You guys will have a good time.

I certainly will. Still have a few things to organize to see if we are able to do it. If not, we will definately be at Knoxville for the whole week of the Nationals if some people want to meet up. We are doing the Ironman weekend at Pevely then heading over to do the Capatini Classic through the Nationals.

Sounds great.

My plan----at this point anyways----is to be at the 360 Nationals Finale and the Capitani Classic.  Then, this year I have to go home and cannot return until early-Thursday evening of the 410's.
