Hope some chuckles result from these stories:

At an outlaw show a few years back the top ten qualifiers came to the grandstands to draw the pill for starting positions in the dash, only with a twist. The drivers had to choose a kid from the crowd to draw for them.  Sammy and Steve were both there.  Without realizing it Sammy picked a kid who was wearing a Steve Kinser tee shirt.  The kid drew the #1 pill putting Sammy on the pole.  The announcer saw what happened and said to him, "do you realize that you just benefitted by Steve Kinser helping you?"  Sammy's dry response was, "It's about time."  (both drivers were later seen talking to each other in a friendly manner, Steve was even laughing!)

We all know how important it is to qualify well at a big WoO show with many cars.  At many tracks there is a maximun decible level you can't go beyond.  At Chico it's 95 dcb.  During Gold Cup qualifying Brent Kaeding put up a great time but was too loud.  He would be allowed to re-qualify after everyone else had done so and would get only one lap.  When he did, his time was much slower as the track had gone away.  To show his displeasure he slowly drove his car into the infield and when in range of the two guys who were sitting in the back of a pick-up with the sound meter hammered it.  In a sweeping arc he showered those guys with rocks, clods, and dust and who knows what else.  It took a long while for the dust to settle.

Pretty funny to see a clueless driver warming his car up on the track with a riderless 4 wheel atv stuck to his back bumper!

Anybody else?

One year at the Kings Royal there were many Austrailan fans & drivers in attendance so it was announced that the Austrailan National anthem would be played before the races. The guy  next to me taps me on the shoulder and says, "Austrailian National anthem? How does that go?......Oh say can you bloody see?"

I believe it was 2016 at the Knoxville Nationals when they were having a contest.    They were showing pictures of drivers with their helmets on and asking fans to guess who it was.    They put Bronson Maeschen's picture up there and then picked some old dude that was falling down drunk.   His answer was "Danny Slasocki".   If that wasn't funny enough he was asked if he wanted to take another guess, and his answer was "I don't know who that ugly bastard is.   The whole audience of 20,000 people got to hear that one, so I'm sure someone else on this forum probably remembers it.

So made my first trip to Knoxville last year.  We got in a day earlier decided to hit dingus for some food. My God father who was very involved in sprint cars  back in day,  and in recent years been battling health issues. We get into dingus and he needs to sit down,  and asks two young kids if they would mind if he can catch his breathe. Both kids where very polite and good kids. I know who they are,  he doesn't and proceeds to ask Dominic and Gio scelzi if they where at Knoxville for the races.  They where so nice to him hahaha we all still get a kick outta of the story.  Two great wheel man, and great people!

1988 or so during the Thursday NIght Thunder ESPN shows at Sante Fe Speedway near Chicago,  this one was USAC sprints.

It was iffy on weather, so I arrived late.    Being underage but looking like I was over 21,  my first stop was for beer....one 32 oz for each hand (on top of plentiful amounts of that green stuff that college kids occasionally smoke),    On the way to my seat,  I stopped at the turn 4 fence to watch hotlaps.    Towards the end,  I watched a dirt clod from darn near the time it got launched off someones right rear all the way up and through the fence.  It dinged off my forehead and landed right in the full beer cup in my right hand,   I looked up across the infield and saw that the TV camera stationed in turn three was pointing right at me with it's red light on.     My only thought was to finish the other  beer and put both in the trash can before I got busted for underage consumption.      .
