Seeing as 1 certain "colorful" late model driver had problems at the scales at Eldora last night again...
Have any WoO racers been DQ'ed after being light in a WoO race or especially a big race like Knox Nats or Kings royal?
Any All Stars ever been DQed after an All Star show?

I saw a meme someone made of him getting in the car and it looked like he put on some pounds during his hiatus. The meme said that he gained a few but shouldn't have any trouble making weight. The meme was wrong and his streak of sucking up the headlines continues. PS, I'm a fan for the sheer entertainment value. Anyone who has been at a big race waiting for his hauler and wondering if he's going to show knows what I'm saying.

The drama generated in this group is in the minor leagues compared to what can be seen on 4m. I read their posts for the sheer entertainment value.

I think that'd be a great question for Johnny G and would love to see him respond to it. He is always on top of that stuff! I would go out on a limb and say it's been quite awhile since someone has been DQd for weight at a big race, but don't quote me on that.
I am honestly surprised it doesn't happen very often. The top Outlaw teams i'm sure are cutting it close, and do it on purpose for obvious reasons. In most cases less weight = faster car. I guess that's why they are the best in the business, they can flirt with the line and 99% of the time not cross it.

Last year at Nats, Logan Schuhart was dq'd for failing to go to scales on his prelim night. I believe it was in the B main which he won. Not the same thing but along those lines.
As an aside, I was at Eldora for the Dream on Saturday. I'm a "bipolar" fan I guess. Love both the late models & sprints. The scenario with Bloomquist's heat race was insane. In order, he got kicked back a row for jumping a restart, then retook the lead. Then on a subsequent restart, it literally started raining in turn 1 in the couple seconds between the green dropping & the cars getting to turn 1. This caused he & several others to crash (some of you may have seen the video). Those cars were then sent to the pits for repairs while they ran the next heat race. After that heat, they resumed the remaining 5 laps of the interrupted heat race. Bloomquist won the heat but then came up 2 lbs light at the scales after the heat. All of this hapened within maybe 30 minutes of actual clock time from start to finish (including about a 10 minute break while they ran the brief bit of moisture back into the track).
Been to a lot of races & seen a lot on tv/internet. It was the craziest bit of action I have ever seen at a track. Then to top it off, the feature came down to the last lap in a near photo finish as Brandon Sheppard won over Dale McDowell.
It was a night that could make a late model fan out of a sprint car fan.

Kenny Jacobs at the original 1200 Pound Nationals at Knoxville in 2001 was ruled light, along with third-place finisher Danny Smith.
Probably still is the overall craziest A Main I've ever seen. It had it all.

Mouse was light because the water came out of the radiator and burnt down the engine. Had the hose stayed on he would have made weight and not have a junk engine.

This has been a few years ago but Cappy had a 1200 pound national at Knoxville in 2001. Cars with out driver had to weigh 1200. I think Kenny Jacobs won the event for $12,000 but was to lite at scales. The second place car was also to lite. About 2 weeks later Jacobs was to lite again at a big race. Moral of story is make sure your car out of feul weighs enough at scales.

2010 nationals, Jason Meyers ran 4th in the B on his prelim night and was light at the scales, he timed 5th, ran 5th in his heat up until then, he could have been top 3 or so in points leading into Saturday, instead he started 12th in the C.
Sammy Swindell had the same thing happen, crossed the line 3rd in the B on Friday night and was light due to running out of fuel. This was the 2013 Nationals.
Bayston at the nationals a couple of years ago was light after Time Trials, they ended up letting him re run on Thursday due to what was claimed to be a fault with the scales. Who knows with that, but a team I work with from time to time, races there weekly and claimed they weighed within 2 pounds of what they did all year, so who really knows.

It should be noted that Meyers was only able to finish 4th in the B on his prelim night because he chopped the piss out of Kerry Madsen near the end of the race! He was probably frantically trying to think of places he could go run & hide so he didn't get the living crap beat of of him by the Madman after that deal... oops!!

He never made it to the scales which is why he was DQ'd and probably for the reason you just mentioned!

One of my favorite weight stories involved a legend of racing in East Texas/Lousiana. I remember Ray Ingalls was going to the scales and just as he rolled into the scales, one of his pit crew stuck his head in the car to see the water temp. I am sure that they were complaining about how hot the car was running. Anyway as he stuck his head in the car, the crew guy put his foot on the scale.
I never got to see Ray race in his prime, but even later in his career when I watched him, he was one of the smoothest drivers I ever saw.

I follow the Dream hilites on YouTube and that 5th Heat was indeed a strange one.

I asked Tom at one of the Woo shows a couple years ago about how often cars are close to 1400. He said very rarely. Most are in the 1440-1460 range. Then I went to a show at Eldora where you can see the weight on the pole. No one there was close to being light. I think 1440 was the lightest car there that night.

Sammy was light after winning a WoO race in Dodge City around the first year they went to dirt. I'm going to guess it was around 2003 or 4.

With the added safety requirements that last few years why hasn't the weight rule increased? Safety bars, tubing requirements, bigger seats, head and neck restraints, etc. All these added weight. It costs a lot of money to try to get the weight down. Titanium, carbon fiber, lightweight hoses, etc. Other than TI in the rotating parts for obvious reasons, the rest is just to keep weight down. Why not raise the limit to something that doesn't require all that money spent on nothing but weight savings?

A lot of cars are already carrying extra ballast, so there is no need to raise the weight rule. Also, if you add weight, the cars will actually crash harder. A light weight car loses energy a lot faster than a heavy car. If you don't believe me, throw a marble at the wall and then throw a cotton ball at the wall.
