That sure makes for a hell of a Memorial Day weekend in Ohio for the All Stars and then guys can head down to Lawrenceburg for the Woo on Monday. Nice to see some fences get mended.

While I'm happy for the local Fremont fans... In my opinion Attica, Mansfield, Sharon, and Wayne County, Waynesfield are all better race tracks and deserve the shows. Hopefully the return to Fremont doesn't take away from those tracks.

A lot of history there for sure! Close to home for me. Had another great visit to Volusia this year with Dave. Still missing the donut stand!

I googled why you feel that way but couldn't find a definite reason so I thot I would risk asking you directly why you say that. Could you please tell us why you feel that way based on the physical attributes of the facility. I mean if you just dont like the place that is fine but if I showed up would I be disappointed by the facility or the management as a spectator?
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

It's an ok track, has a bit of a odd shape to it I guess compared to other dirt tracks. Facility is on the Sandusky County Fairgrounds and you can sit basically right next to the track. Some people in Ohio think its the end all be all of race tracks in the state and don't try telling them otherwise though. That is where some of the issues come from at times because some of the loyalists of the track will pump out their chest about the place, which is fine they are entitled to their opinion. Others in the state don't like the place because of that chest pumping and previous management. As someone who just enjoys racing, aside from Eldora I wouldn't say it is any better or any worst than any other track in the state (Attica, Atomic, Waynesfield, Wayne County, Sharon, Etc) and it has its positives and negatives like them as well. We are fortunate to have a great number of tracks in our area. For others, it depends on who you side with. Former Fremont Management or the All Stars or in some cases anyone else

I don’t think you would be disappointed in either. The facility has plenty of parking, plenty of seats, modern restrooms and plenty of concessions. The track is a tight little bullring that usually has multiple grooves. The lighting is good, the fencing is good and there are soft walls on each end. The show is usually ran fast and efficiently getting you home at a reasonable hour. All at a reasonable price. Far from a shithole in my opinion.

Sounds like you think its over rated, not so much that it actually sucks...
Kinda how i feel about Bruce Springsteen & The Grateful Dead....
I've only been to 2 Ohio tracks, Eldora & Attica. Eldora obviously has the better facility, but I preferred the racing at Attica (Even tho i went to 4 Crown at Eldora, the year Tony worked the track for 2 hrs. before features. I kept falling asleep during Silver Crown race, left before it was over...)

It's been poorly managed and the track surface has been terrible for so long i quit going there. I now go to Wayne County on Saturdays.

It's funny reading that because you just described some Port Royal homers to a T. Port is awesome, don't get me wrong. It is, was and ALWAYS will be what I consider to be my home track and a lot of my fondest childhood memories are attached to that place but some people around here would make you think that Port Royal is the golden city on the hill while all the other tracks around here are outdated shitholes in the middle of the ghetto. They all have their pros and cons and Port is no different. The majority of the improvements Port did were things that Lincoln and Williams Grove had already done but these people tend to forget about that. Port was left go for so long that they had a lot of catching up to do and thanks to Steve O'Neal, they got their heads out of their asses and did it. As much as I love the place, it gets annoying seeing people turn a blind eye to Ports flaws while hammering Williams Grove to no end if they were to do the same thing. I've literally seen that happen many times. So I can totally understand what you're saying. That said, Fremont and all the other Ohio tracks are on my bucket list. If things work out the way I want them to this year, I might be going out for a weekend to check it out. Hopefully it happens.

For the many fans and race teams who enjoy Fremont, I am happy for them. As a spectator, here is my opinion why I agree the place is a shithole...
I personally haven't been there since the 2016 WoO show. That night the track took rubber and it was single file the whole race. They were off the throttle more than they were on it. Not the only time I've experienced that at Fremont. There's a reason the Outlaws don't come back to Fremont. Its not because they cant beat the locals either. The outlaws struggle in PA yet but they don't stop going to the Grove and Lincoln. And its not becuase Fremont doesn't have sprint car racing history... its becuase it sucks.
While I havent attended a race in person since 2016, I always watch race highlights when I see them on my social media feeds, not once have I ever watched highlights from Fremont and thought, "Man I missed a good race last night." When Attica or Wayne Co. gets slick theres still a cushion and moisture in the bottom groove. Always consitant track prep. I dont think the same can be said about Fremont.
In my recent memory, maybe the past 5-6 years I think I can only remember 2 nights where Fremont wasn't a dusty shithole. On the rare occassion the track held any kind of moisture there was a rut in 3 and 4 so large they couldn't even do anything about it. Drivers just tried to miss it all night. While I usually love a rough track where drivers have to "get up on the wheel", this wasn't the case. It simply made the track narrow, tore up equipment, and caused the show to drag on forever. The other time... the cushion was so wet and heavy every car was throwing clumps of mud into the turn 4 bleachers. I'm not even joking when I say the clumps were the size of softballs and larger. I couldn't even watch the race because I had to make sure my girlfriend wasn't going to get blasted by a 20lb clump of mud.
As for things not directly related to racing... If you're there on a hot summer day the suns beams down directly in your face until it finally sets over the backstretch towards the entry to turn 3. Parking? Plenty if you dont care to walk, which I don't mind. Concessions? Nothing great, nothing terrible. The only good thing about the place is how close you can sit to the track. But more often than not track coniditions and inconsitant track prep will ruin that too. All this being said I will probably be there on May 26th hoping for the best in the All-stars' return. Either way I will be the first one back here to say I told you so or to eat my words if the race is actually good. Oh and Tim Shaffer is going to win haha.

I wouldn't say that its over rated persay. As FIXXER brought up it is kind of similar to the Central PA Port Royal scenario that he brought up, just probably on a lesser scale. Most of this has centered around the situation when Tony bought the All Stars in 2015, apparently there was a disagreement between the All Stars and the Fremont Promoter at the time. Some fans blamed Fremont, some blamed the All Stars, some said the All Stars needed Fremont & Fremont didn't need the All Stars. In the following years if the All Stars scheduled anything on Saturday some said they were doing it to get back at Fremont, yada yada yada.
I have not been to Fremont since the 2016 Outlaws race and as SAF92 said it was a single file, narrow race and not the tracks best. With that said, it wasn't anything that would keep me away from the track as I have seen some good races there. However, I have not had a reason to go to Fremont. With living in the middle of the state of Ohio, I can typically get to any track in no more than 2 hours (Fremont would be 2hrs). In the past few years there have been sceniaros where on a Saturday I can either go to Fremont and see a BOSS Wingless show on Saturday or I can go to Eldora and see the Outlaws & USAC. Between those two, I am going to pick Eldora every time. Several times Fremont has had 410s, 305s, Lates, etc racing but either Wayne County or Atomic have the All Stars racing. I am going to pick the All Stars each time. Its not that I don't support the Fremont locals or the track, its just I can basically get more bang for my buck going to those places rather than going to a regular weekly show at Fremont. I will most likely be going to this year's All star show, and it will most likely be the only time I go this year, and as SAF92 said most likely Tim Shaffer will win

I dunno. I've never seen Bruce Springsteen or the Grateful Dead race so it's hard to say how I feel about them.
