Thats WAY far south! A while back I was thinking about going to some races in our neighbor state, New Mexico, from Denver. Turns out NM is as big North to south as Kansas is East to west... would have been close to a 10 hr. drive. Didn't do it....

Yo rev isn't it Alberquerque or Sante Fe or both that actually sit at a higher elevation than Denver. I always found that cool and interesting and not common knowledge but maybe it's more widely known. Cool fact nonetheless.

Know what you mean.   I live in the Dallas area and just the highway time to get to El Paso would be 8+ hours for me.   Still glad to hear it though.

Alwas good news when a new track is being built.   I grew up in New Mexico so I am fond of all racing things that happen there.   It looks like the track will be a first class opertion.  They have some construction videos of it being built.

My question is what is the back story?  Why are they leaving the track in Las Cruces, and why is the track a year behind schedule?   The announcement of the new track was made back in December of 2016.

I just looked it up & you're right. didn't realize it myself. But after living in Leadville, Co. elevation 10,125 ft. Denverites are still a bunch of "flatlanders" to me. Leadville was the highest incorporated town in the USA until a few years ago, when little Alma, just east over Mosquito Pass, was incorporated, a bit higher.

By the way, Santa Fe was settled before Plymouth Rock or Jamestown colonies, 1548 compared to 1609 or 1607, making the Chicanos of NM (or "Hispanics", big political & generational conflict over those names) the original European/Americans. They didn't cross the border, the border crossed them in 1848 (or 1846?)

I'd probably drive to Alberquerque for good race, a mere 6 hours. But Las Cruces or El Paso is more like 10 or 11

When i lived in Leadville, i used to time my Ford "Chicanoline" van by ear. I drove to New Orleans every spring for Jazzfest, & when i got to Amarillo, the van would barely be running. Twist that distributor back to retard the timing, running like a charm again....

Texas is one big mofo! I never made it all the way across in 24 hrs. One year I was coming back from Louisiana, less than 20 miles from NM border, & had to pull over & go to sleep.... no sense dying to prove a point....

That comment was uncalled for.   Royal Jones was a racer before a promoter.   He has ran a race track before.  His compnay has help sponsor countless race teams on different series.   M-V-T has been on countless cars, and was one of Kraig Kinser's top sponsors last year.

I'm sure there is somebody else out there, but I don't know of another man that helps more sprintcar racers than Royal. Yes, he's a long time supporter of Steve Kinser Racing and Jason Johnson Racing at the highest levels, but he also supports 360 and 305 cars, wing and non wing cars. He supports champions, rookies, and everything in between. I guarantee there is a lot more people racing and able to travel to the many dirt tracks located across the country thanks to Royal. I for one appreciate what you do for all of the race teams and appreciate you putting your time and money to invest in a new race track during a time when everywhere else they are dissappearing and closing down.

DJW--find a way to spend 5-10 minutes around Royal, or look around and see the number of cars that have a MVT-Mesilla Valley Trucking sticker and you will be embarrassed that you made the comparison that you did.

How many days until chili bowl?

Agreed. Royal has been involved at Southern New Mexico Speedway & up until somewhat recently El Paso, for many years. Although most people associate him with Modified racing, he actually runs a Winged 360 as well and just raced the Copper Classic at Arizona Speedway. I also know when he’s not racing, he watches just about anything we and DirTVision broadcast and usually both at once.

Here‘s my Royal story. We were broadcasting the Winter Heat at Cocopah Speedway (man, I miss that event) and Tasker Phillips comes rolling in with a Mesilla Valley Transportation rig pulling his trailer. I asked if he got a sponsorship from MVT and he said no, his hauler broke down on the way and when Royal heard he gave them a rig to borrow so they could make it to Yuma in time.

There is absolutely zero comparison between Royal Jones & Chuck Brennan. Vado is going to be a racing oasis and I can’t wait to visit.
