There have been several post bouncing around on social media talking about another phenomenal year for the 15 team, with NO DNF's and a worst finish of 14th.... my question: They obviously didnt have any crashes to end the night, but did he even "junk" any chassis in heat race or dash competition?  How many times (if any) did they even get upside down in 2018?  Cold weather homework for you die hard Hosehead stat guys.

Yes, he is easy on equipment.  I think that goes back to guys that once owned thier own teams.  Another example to name a few would be Mark Kinser.  He started out with his own team.  Karl said he ran a entire year with out ruining a chassis and Steve went thru 7 frames in 1 year.  Notice guys like little Haud and 1S burn thier tires off  with exciting runs but Donny runs a smooth race to the front.  Do not get me wrong I love to watch these young guys drive and I enjoy it when they beat Donny.  I am just saying Donny is smooth because he once had his own team and you can not win if you crash plus it cost alot to repair cars.

I agree with your reply, but just wanted to point out that young Sheldon was in family equipment for the last few years as well.

Part of his being easy on equipment is that on the nights he doesn’t have the best car he has the ability to still be toward he front but not take extra risk trying to get to the lead.  If 3rd is best he can do he runs 3rd that night.  Also leaves him in a spot where he can always take advantage of someone in front of him making a mistake.  Seems to only run 100% when he needs to.  And never runs 110% which gets other guys in trouble.

Didn't Brad Sweet make every A-main this year without having to run a B? He too then would get the award for not tearing up to much stuff...not saying he didn't have issues during the A, but to make them all without having to go.through the B is impressive too.

How about some love for his crew chief  ?  Donnie Shatz !!! Would he be where he is today without Ricky Warner ? I doubt it.

My .01...Ricky and crew get the set up nailed(usually) and I am pretty sure a good set up on a car makes it easier to drive.  But Schatz's right foot and what is between his ears contributes ALOT to him not tearing up his equipment.  Hes just so damn smooth.

One of the reasons why he’s easy on equipment is that he stays away from the wall unless that’s the only place he can go fast. Schatz wins a lot of races in the middle or the low side where the other guys aren’t.

Donny has the acumen to determine the equation of how to race.  On the nights he has "it" but the car does not he knows how to race.  On the nights the car has "it" but he does not he knows how to race.  On the nights he and the car have "it", he knows how to race.  He is a racer's racer.

Yea ford 97. You just can't wait until they announce that ford motor huh ? Your diaper will be just full of crap. So, you think a driver can wheel a car on the outlaw tour without a good crew chief ? I never said Donnie couldn't drive. But, I guarantee you he has hand a hand in how Donnie drives his set up. Those 2 have been on the same page for years. The days of a driver on a tour getting there hands dirty is just about over. And you are right, Donnie steers the car, Ricky makes darn sure the car sticks where he wants to drive it.

That sums it up as perfect as possible. Watching how Donny drives a race is a thing of beauty. He knows exactly when to go and exactly when to slow. He wins so many races by catching others out of position. He's the most cerebral racer I've ever watched and he has the physical ability to go with it. He's the total package.

The previous poster didn't have to point out ylhe is fine with being an idiot. He provides ample evidence of that on 9 out of 10 posts.

The similarity between this forum and a used car lot is you just glance over the Fords and don't give them any attention.

Why is it that people feel the need to be a dick? Not only you, but many others as well. 7 out of 10 posts from certain parties like this contain nothing but low comments. Its the 5 year old "He started it" finger pointing that gets old. No wonder literally nobody (minus Johnny Gibson) that has any frutition in Sprint Car racing posts here anymore (drivers, owners, crew chiefs, etc.) Same Ol Bullshit you see in half the posts, someone calling someone stupid, other person firing back, on and on and on. Childish. Reminds me of a playground fight at the elementary school.

Actually, a good crew cheif does have a lot to do with it.  Having a car that goes where you want it to every lap helps keep out of trouble.  Qualifying well helps keep you out of trouble.  Missing the setup early and then finding the handle in time for the feature sucks, because you are now starting 24th with an 8th place car. It takes a lot of patience to not get over a wheel in that situation, but you can't be so patient that you get lapped.

Donny is smooth because he has experience, and a car he can always trust to be in race mode and able to run up front. So YES, Ricky Warner contributes to Donny's driving capability. Maybe you should ask yourself the same questions you asked.  Seems that some of the posters on this thread forget that Donny wasn't always the driver he is today. When Donny was a young driver he tore up his share of equipment. What he learned from that was that it was a pain in the ass repairing those cars. If I'm not mistaken Donny was required by his dad to be hands on in that department. Like a "you wrecked it....you help fix it" rule. That gave Donny an appreciation of what the crew goes through when a driver is careless or pushes the car too far. I seem to remember an article or an interview with Donny when he talked about that, but not sure what race or interview it was.

Duh... its team work, obviously. You guys can argue all you want about which half of the team is more important

Like teenage girls back in my day arguing about their favorite Beatle? (NONE of their solo stuff ever got close to the whole band.... synergy)

Schatz + Warner=EFFICIENCY!

Just to build on this & the comment about when he gets on the wall only when needed, he also only runs it hard for the right amount of time.  Some guys get fast on the wall & then stay up there & on the edge too long.  He only runs 100% for the laps he needs to in order to gain the lead or make a key move & then he gets back to running his pace.

Never out of position & always getting faster as the race goes on (in relation to the other cars).  Take Knoxville this year for example, he was not as good as Sweet all night, but he saved enough for that last 2 laps run & gave him all he wanted.

At Weedsport this year he hit the wall during qualifying and took no time. It didnt matter because he still started 15th and finished 6th and picked up the hard charger award.

Back at the Silver Cup in 2016 at Lernerville, I watched him take the lead and then jump the cushion in 4, handing the lead back to Gravel who went on to win. That's still phenomenal though, Im talking about, what, two mistakes over three full years of racing. Im sure if you asked him he might list countless others, but they'd basically be imperceptible to you and me.

By the way, unrelated to the thread I usually enjoy Ford's posts on here. I like the sarcastic, profane edge he uses. It cracks me up. People need to not take themselves so seriously.
