Both of them are blowhards. I actually like Eldora the way it is now.

After a short google at Ballou i cant determine if he is more than a racer. Could someone please bring me up to date on who he is and what he said and why he thinks Tony Stewart show take him seriously? Sorry Ford, I tried.

I hope this response is tongue in cheek....

Any driver that risks his life by strapping into a car at Stewarts track should Be taken seriously, however Ballou has worn out his welcome with his tantrums etc..

Johnny Gibson weighed in saying Eldora's track prep is better now than it ever was when Earl ran the place. Being my home track and going there since the early 70s I have to disagree. I don't see that much difference except they run the bottom more than they used to. There were good tracks and bad tracks when Earl prepped it and the same thing now with Tony Stewart. Ballou has always whined much like Stewart has so I thought it was fitting they would get into a pissing match on twitter. The track has always been too fast for the midgets in my opinion and I've seen some of the most violent crashes when they run the Big E. Greg Wilson said in his interview after Friday's race the track was how it should be and the racing was very good all weekend I thought. Been to the last 20 Knoxville Nationals and their track prep is the most consistent that I have seen but I think everyone would agree it's a tough job.

I read the tweet posted above. Looks like Tony challenged Ballou to do better...I don't see anything about banning him. If you have more info, please share it

Ballou is a DAMN good wingless racer, has been USAC season champ. He's criticized track prep before

Check out discussion of this on Indiana Open Wheel forum. Its all wingless fans , who mostly seem to like & respect Ballou. but think he's wrong on this

All  I know is he's an excellent driver, ballsy & fun to watch... & everybody has an opinion on track prep ( except me. I can tell if a race is good or not, but not WHY)

Thanks to those who responded. My question wasn't a poke at either Ballou or Stewart. I understand every driver has an opinion and should be able to ask the track owner about any concern. I guess I was wondering if he was just a driver or someone who had some authority to represent all drivers like a sanctioning director etc.

No official standing other than popular, competitive driver & 2015 National  Champ

Did you check out IOW? Try to get to Indiana some day, wingless sprints on bullrings are great!

Reading some on twitter and alot of drivers(including bayston) said that the track prep was awsome.

I sort of don't understand the point Ballou is making.  He wants it more juiced up but then is coming from a safety angle also.  It would seem having it more juiced up is gonna make it faster (obviously) & inherently more dangerous due to higher speeds.  Even when it is slicked off, Eldora is a big boy track.  As mentioned earlier, the midgets may have crosseed the threshold of being too fast/too small to run that track anymore.  That is someone else's call to make though.

I've been to lots of late model shows at Eldora & a few sprint car shows.  Seems there is more passing in the big races in recent years than in the past.  Especially for the big late model shows, it seems the winners are coming from the middle/bottom once the track slicks off.

After watching the video of all 4 features I have to say the track and racing were awesome.  The midget feature was first and the track was still somewhat tacky and that's when Bayston crashed so I honestly don't get Ballou's post at all.

One has to think he was just mad because he wrecked himself and had to blame someone.

Track prep can be a real pain with the dirt, clay soil changing with the weather.  There is so much in this game. Even what class you run first has an effect on the surface. How many laps you put on it. How many loads of water.

Every weekend conditions can change.

Some weekends it is perfect others you wonder what went wrong. It is a time consuming chore to get it right.

Eldora has always been known when you crash you CRASH.

I love and appreciate everything Tony has done for Eldora and sprint car racing in general. But at the same time Ballou's and Tony's comments have me wondering... While the track conditions at Eldora have been different in recent years vs. years past, I agree the recent years have created great races and somewhat equalized competition. But at the same time I miss when Eldora was wet n' heavy, high banked, and right on the wall. I didn't really mind the fact it was follow the leader, its the Eldora I fell in love with.

I don't know if the recent track prep has been done by choice or the amount of moisture is naturally limited by the current dirt/clay... But I would be highly interested to see someone do the track prep who wants a wet, heavy track with a big cushion. I really hope Ballou takes him up on his offer next year to see how it goes.

In fairness to Ballou, he is just trying to defend his prefered style of track. Not very well I might add. He definately loves a heavy track thats fast with a hard cushion but lots of tracks are going away from this. La Salle, IL last night for the IRA/MOWA was so dang slick it wasn't funny. Time trails looked miserable for the drivers until the track was reworked. Back to the main subject though. I went to the Lets Race Two weekend last year at Eldora with the WoO and USAC and night one was dry slick but good racing. Plenty of complaints. Night two was really heavy. Lap times were much faster also with good racing. Still plenty of complaints from others.

The difference?? Ballou won night two.... Its what he wants and is what he is good at. Just sounds like he does not get that style of track at Eldora anymore.

The tackiest I ever saw Eldora was for an ESPN weeknight Thunder race back in the mid to late 90s. They intentionally prepped it that way to avoid dust issues for TV. The end result was 13 flips and a weekninght show that didn't end until 2am.
