Hi, I was watching some USAC NON WING SPRINTCAR RACE Hilights from Bubba raceway in 2018 and noticed these lights inside the cockpits as they raced ? is THIS SOMETHING NEW ? & WILL IT CATCH ON in other open wheel divisions too ? THANKS

it is a safety feature in response to BC's wreck at Belleville. One of the contribuiting factors was that the cars were traveling so fast and the turns were so sweeping that they wanted to improve the reaction time of the drivers to a caution.

The center light will light up on your car if you are the leader. The 2 outside lights of the 3 light up if you are second. All 3 light up if you are in third. On a caution or red, they will flash on all cars. They are working on getting colors and modes of execution of the lights worked out on track. It is a work in progress.
